Hello everyone,

Keeping fit during your time in the United Arab Emirates is of utmost importance. How about sharing with us and your fellow expats how you keep healthy in your host country?

What are your daily health hacks in the United Arab Emirates?

Do you exercise regularly? What is your go-to sport?

Do you manage to keep your diet healthy and balanced? How easy is it to maintain a balanced diet in the United Arab Emirates? Are you able to find organic products easily?

Are there national or local incentives to foster a healthy lifestyle: sensitisation campaigns, sports infrastructure etc. ?

How much of your monthly budget is dedicated to keeping fit?

Please share your experience,

Priscilla

Hi Priscilla

Thank you for talking about how to keep fit in Uae
As I am freelancer personal trainer i found all of my clients unhealthy lifestyle frequent food takeaways and lack of exercise being the biggest ones.
If staying healthy is your resolution for 2019  i have some quick tips that can help you transform into a leaner version of you. All you need to do is make some simple changes in your life.
Why opt for a takeaway meal when you can toss healthy meals at home? Sure, it means a bit of effort but it is better than picking up a shawarma on the way home.

*DIET
Walk into any supermarket in UAE and you can see a long aisle of salad section, right from tabbouleh, peeled fruits to salad boxes. If cooking isn't your thing, at least replace your shawarma with healthy bites.

*EXERCISE
It is better you don't give this excuse for not exercising during the summer months. UAE has a plethora of options, like swimming, aqua biking, paddleboard yoga, aqua zumba, and there are well-equipped gyms every few kilometres in the city. Pick your sport and start sweating it out.

Hi Priscilla,

The place I am staying in Abu Dhabi has a well-equipped 24 hours gym which I utilise 3-4 times a week for at least two hours doing a combination of cardio workout and weight training.

It has been quite easy keeping a healthy and balanced diet as I believed it is a matter of personal choices. I usually prepare/cook meals for myself and my family. However, we do allow ourselves to indulge once or twice a week especially during weekends.

Organic produces and products are easily accessible in supermarkets i.e. Carrefour, Spinneys, Waitrose, Lily, etc.

Not quite sure if there are any local incentives to foster healthy lifestyle. However, there are sports or fitness activities (mostly chargeable) regularly advertise to be participated especially during weekends.

Our household roughly spent AED2500-3000 on just food grocery, organic as much possible as we believed eating well and proper are key to healthy living while staying fit.

Hi Priscilla
I work 12 hours night shift everyday but I manage to do exercise on Saturday and Sunday, then I fast on Monday but no exercise, and exercise on Tuesday and Wednesday, on Thursday is my off but
i am also fasting but no exercise, on Friday no exercise no fasting. My exercises are going jogging, doing cardio exercises then gym exercises.

I take 2 meals everyday, my break being toast bread, Glass of milk, 2 boiled eggs and banana. Another meal being beans curry or any vegetables, I eat with either ugali or roti 😜. At work I bring some oranges, banana, carrot and apple.

Thank you.
