Hi everyone,

How are you all doing? It is nice to be part of a forum on life in Muscat again.

We are a couple and aren't really new to Muscat.. for we lived there some 10 years back for about 4 years. Lived across the city starting with Ruwi to Wadi Kabir to Muttrah to MQ.. those were interesting years.. a little humdrum perhaps but nice. We made some friends.. travelled a bit around Oman and in the region and generally had a good time while we saw the city develop (one of us even lived through Gonu!).

Then it was time to return and we've been in Bombay ever since.

Well, now we are looking to return back.. there appear to be a few opportunities and we'd like to explore and see if it fits .. it clicks! But it has been so long.. we don't know how the city has changed.. what the cost of living is.. how simple or difficult it would be to assimilate again. Also, life certainly has changed since the last time - we now have a four-legged daughter who wags her tail at the very sight of us and there is no way we can return without her.

So we are here for answers..
- What is the procedure to bring your pet dog in?
- Can pets enjoy a lovely life in Muscat? Can dogs be walked anywhere or are there designated areas
- Are there any parks for them? Can they be taken to the beach for a run?
- Is good veterinary care available for dogs? Are there pet parent groups?
- Are there apartments or villas available that allow doggies?
- What are rentals like for houses in places like MQ, Al Khuwair, Darsait.. and any other nice cosmopolitan places that have come up since 2009?
- How much have salaries grown?
- What is the cost of living like now?

Any other information is welcome too.

Finally, we are here (and eventually will be there for the long haul) to make friends across communities.. something we were unable to do the last time. We like to travel - explored a few wadis back in the day.. witnessed the marvel of the Olive Ridley Turtle hatching on the beaches of Ras Al Jins, engage in a spot of photography, read novels (we don't exactly devour books but are pretty steady), play a bit of sport, watch a lot of movies, take long drives and generally take it slow!

Thanks

Hi All  :top:  So I am here in Sohar & looking to connect with anyone from our side of the world, Ireland, UK, Wales etc.. Basically anyone who has a good grasp of English & is perhaps as bored as I am here . I find the transition from having so much to do at home to having less options here & no family/friends very isolating. We are only here now until September but would love to have a conversation with someone as presently I only have my  tired hubby when he returns after his long shifts & family on Video Calls back home! I have done the malls & wander around like a bit of a lost soul tbh. Im definitely like a fish out of water & Sunbathing Studying & Shopping have now lost their charm after 5 wks . We have travelled around Oman in previous months when time off work allowed us as we are explorers by nature, but I do find Sohar extremely quiet and incredibly lonely & the long days can be hard to fill . I use tripadvisor to get recommendations on dining & places to visit, etc but find theres not much on there about this place.

Check internations, most of the members are from the side of the world where you came from.

However, you will also bump into other races i.e. Asians,  Middle Easterns, Africans, etc...

Hope this helps.

All the best!

My name is Davoud. I come from Iran and I am planning to immigrate to Oman. However, I need some information about the mechanisms of Work residence and the ways I could possibly work as an IT man in Oman, especially Muscat. I would really be grateful if someone living in Oman would help me with this matter.
