Introduction

Steve Ubu

Hi, My name is Steve and I plan to stay here for sometime. I would like to find a house to rent in Pokhara. I'm and English teacher, and looking for opportunities to teach for NGO or schools on a volunteer or paid basis. I'm in KTM at the moment but will travel to Pokhara next week, probably, and was hoping to meet some fellow expats there who can answer some questions about how things work, housing, social life etc. Hope to hear from you.

All the best,

Steve

Steve, to meet some expats, check out the "Farmers' Market" and I would suggest the one held in Maharajgung held every Saturday. There you will meet Freddy the baker, Francois the cheese man and all the well known people in the expat community.
Best job opportunities, by far, are those which are lined up before you get to Nepal. Once in Nepal, don't mean to sound negative, but it's a lot more difficult, and most likely with lower pay, less perks, whatever. Good luck anyway.

Steve, Welcome to the forum. Hope you are enjoying Nepal. If you have any questions along the way just post it. Everyone tries to help each other here.

Steve, oops forgot perhaps the most important. Assume you are fully aware that you cannot work in Nepal on a tourist visa. So if by "planning to stay here for some time" your intention is to remain here any longer than 150 days in toto, I would strongly suggest that you give priority to first landing a job or occupation whose principals, hopefully, will take you under their wing and/or hire you and - ideally speaking - manage to obtain a non-tourist visa on your behalf. If you were to enter into a lease or rental of a house in Pokhara prematurely - and sign on the dotted line - as you say you intend to do, excuse me for saying it, but that might be like putting the cart before the horse. At least this is my personal opinion. I accept that others may think differently!!
