RNE Renewal

rbhusare

Hi Folks,

I have RNE approved for 180 days. As per travel agency they are saying it is not possible to extend beyond.
Can you guide me if it possible to extend for 1 more month by visiting the Federal or any other alternative ?

Thank you,

Hi, rbhusare,

I assume that you mean you have a visa to visit Brazil -- RNEs were replaced by CRNMs in late 2017, are ID cards, and are only issued to foreigners with permission to live in Brazil for a long period, not for 180 days.
Brazil issues two main kinds of visas to visitors.  The first is a visa that allows a visitor to remain in Brazil for 90 days out of every 180; it cannot be extended beyond 90 days, but after being out of Brazil for 90 days, the traveler can return for up to another 90 days.  Citizens of most countries in the EU have this kind of visa.
The second kind also permits a stay of 90 days, but can be extended for a further 90 days if the traveler requests an extension from the Federal Police, before the first 90 day period expires.  Maximum stay on this visa is 180 days out of 365.
In fact, you may notice that BOTH types of visa allow a visitor to spend a maximum of 180 days out of 365 in Brazil:  with the first type, the visitor must break the stay into at least two trips, and with the second, it can be one continuous trip.  Either way, though, there's no extending past 180 days during the 12 months following one's first arrival in Brazil.
Read your visa carefully, because chances are it's the second kind.  If so, you will be able to stay 180 days, but you MUST extend with the Federal Police at the end of the first 90, or you will be in violation,

I too am  little confused. The old RNE is good, but if you left Brazil for over 180 days at one time, I would consult the consulate as to your "RNE". As said te RNE granted you permanent residence for a foreigner in Brasil. You had to go through a long process to receive an RNE with many types of documentation.
I noted you asked about visas in another post, so the reason I am confused and you will be questioned upon arrival by the PF at the airport.
