The Mauritian Constitution makes no mention of an official language and its one million citizens speak English, French, Mauritian Creole, French-based Creole, and ethnic languages such as Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Marathi, Urdu, Tamil or Mandarin.

5. Share with us the national motto.

Coat of Arms: The coat of arms of Mauritius consists of a Dodo Bird and Sambur Deer supporting sugar cane and a shield divided into four sections. The country's motto, "Stella clavisque maris indici," (Star and key of the Indian Ocean) is displayed in Latin on a ribbon below.

Answer:
Dodo bird and perhaps the kestrel (could be wrong on the latter!)

4. What are the official languages or the ones used the most on a day-to-day basis?
Answer:
Creole, French and English.

Answer:
Being half-Mauritian, I feel ashamed that I do not know what our motto is!

Answer:
Tropical!
