Vicces in my view is a wise and good contributor, still we (not me
at this time) decided to be in Hungary with friendly people (if they
vote for Orban). In my village (street) most of the people are for Orban

I'm glad you called your sister out like that.
It must of been a bit uncomfortable.
 ...>

It's a lack of empathy towards others and a lack of love for others that makes people say and do evil. ...>

I persoanlly take people at face value, if they are kind then I am too, if not then so be it. ...>

Nothing to do with where they come from or their race or religion. ...>

My mother had her issues but teaching us to treat everyone as equals was not one of them. ...>

She was raised in a racist society in the 1920'30's by her full blooded native American grandmother in a predominatly black ghetto . ...>

She was asked to leave stores when she shopped with her granny because they were not white. ...>

Mom passed as white when she was alone but never when she was with her aunts, mother or granny. ...>

She had quilt all of her life when she thought back on how a times she would walk 20 feet away from them on the street as a young child just so she wouldn't be called names. ...>

I have empathy for Gypsies here in Hungary, I see my grandmother in their faces at times. ...>

I am pale as a ghost so it seems fake when I say these things. ...>

Even so, everyone is attracted to different sorts of people, even different races. ...>

My tall white red headed son for one will not look twice at a white women. He loves Asian women and even went to Japan to find one. ...>

I was afraid the first time I was to come to Hungary and meet my in-laws. I am native, half Ruysn and 1/4th German. I thought they would find something about me to dislike, I was wrong, they disliked me being American more then anything else. ...>

I have no time for racist people. ...>

True story, I was a games dealer in Vegas. My full brother looks very native American from his skin tone to his thick dark hair and stoic attitude. ...>

Well a group of 5 white red necks from NC came to my table to play blackjack. ...>

They had their spouces with them so it was a large group of people. ...>

I found out they were airline mechanics like my brother and SIL are. They actually worked with my brother, amazing how small the world is. ...>

They would not stop starring at me. They aksed me several times if my bro was really my bro because I didn't look like him. They said my bro told them he was Russian and Native, I said yes, that's true as well as German. They shook their heads is disbelief. ...>

I was getting mad but being a pro I just kept dealing and taking their money. The best revenge was to get their money which I was happy to do. ...>

I told my brother later on, he said they all were jerks and that one of them, the one with the biggest mouth tried to get him fired once. ...>

People need to be re educated. ...>

I almost forgot the most important thing, well as far it matters to me.
A very high up doctor here in Hungary asked my HU husband and I if I was a Hungarian citizen or not.
This was on my first meeting with this doctor.
My husband told him no I wasn't, the doc said, "That's too bad"... Makes me a bit nervous to hear that repnse... What did that mean and why did he ask????

I'm always honest, drunk , happy, sad sober, doesn't matter, I rub people wrong all the time because most don't want the truth.
I know how to smooth the truth with a bit of honey but the truth is the truth.

Another good article:  https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/apr/04/orbans-victory-in-hungary-adds-to-the-darkness-overshadowing-europe

I was also unaware of the level of "concerns" logged by the OSCE preliminary election report, but it does seem to be extensive.

@Fluffy - I also get that a lot --when someone says, "Damn foreigners" or "Damn gays" but then immediately follow it up with a "But not you, I mean those others".
And I understand the concerns about foreigners. I even share some concerns. But often it is a pick one issue and generalize it everywhere and to every one and the exceptions prove the rule to a certain demographic.

I think this reinforces the idea that it is easy to vilify a generic, unknown group, but when those individuals become real people, then it takes on a heart and face and becomes real for people.
It's easy to say, I hate "foreigners", but harder to say, I hate Danny, my colleague/neighbor...

Sorry Fluffy, I have to disagree, simple people (like ex-neighbours) if even being ignorant are often better then me, I am just thinking of myself (and even being friendly)  there are more considerate to others then me. Voting for Orban ... - @cdw057
At a local level, everyone is fine and friendly.  But this gives an opening for the O1G fascists at the national level. The locals are  engaging in the political process as though the country away from the village is some other far away land.  That's just plain dumb and ignorant.  Maybe Budapest and Pest county should break off and form its own liberal state.

BTW, one Mrs F's friends way out in the sticks near Romania did not even know Russia had invaded Ukraine until about 2 weeks ago.  The world down there is about pigs, peppers and palinka.

Yes, that was a good article in The Guardian and I agree with all your points.  I just wonder what will be the effective outcome on sanctions against the O1G regime.   Von der Leyen will go to see ZE in Kyiv within days.  I wonder  what that will bring.  I am sure HU will be on the agenda.

Mrs F has just told me that some politicians are calling for a opposition boycott in parliament.   It's to ensure that the result is not legitimised.  It would be interesting to see if that would work.  Maybe they would take up their seats but just not go and debate.  That sort of thing  has been going on in the UK - Sinn Fein has not taken up its seats in London for many years.

This is absolutely unfathomable to me:
Breaking ranks with EU, Hungary says ready to pay for Russian gas in roubles

Hungary said on Wednesday it was prepared to pay roubles for Russian gas, breaking ranks with the European Union which has sought a united front in opposing Moscow's demand for payment in the currency.

Hungary will pay for shipments in roubles if Russia asks it to, Prime Minister Viktor Orban told a news conference on Wednesday in reply to a Reuters question.

Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto earlier said that EU authorities had "no role" to play in its gas supply deal with Russia, which was based on a bilateral contract between units of Hungarian state-owned MVM and of Gazprom.  "And … no one has a say in how we modify our own contract."

This basically means that a NATO ally and EU member state is not only ignoring the invasion and massacres, but actively financing it.  Just when I think Hungary couldn't disappoint more after the election, they continue to dig deeper...

It is indeed hard to see how any of this is justifiable.   It's got to come to a head because O1G just using Putin-like speech to say one thing and do another.  It's just not on.

I wondered who can turn off the HU gas supply.  Looks like Bulgaria and Romania and possibly Greece could do it but doesn't look easy.  I'm dependent on gas but I think the problems of being disconnected are not insurmountable if the EU countries work together to support each other.

I don't see how Hungary will be able to send roubles to Russia.   They can easily block these transfers unless they fly directly there with plane loads of cash and I think others will have something to say about that.   Those roubles will become t-roubles.

That slimeball Szijjarto needs to wake up and stop talking rubbish.  Plenty of other countries will feel it is perfectly legitimate to interfere in Hungary's support for war atrocities.  And Putin must be laughing like a maniac that O1G is spending his time driving a wedge in NATO, EU and whatever.   One might even imagine the US and others introducing sanctions against Hungary and O1G for attempting to break sanctions against Russia.   Hard to see how O1G can explain that one away.

BTW, I did read an article about how actions against oligarchs would drive them back to Russia with a bad taste in their mouths and re-Russianify their kids and education.   De-Westernise a generation or more.   Almost like the the philosophy of Boko Haram. Hadn't thought of it like that.

Coal doesn't seem so significant.  The EU needs to get more creative.

Turn the oil and gas off wherever it enters the EU.

It'll annoy countries like Serbia, but their PM doesn't seem to be a nice person either.

@SimCityAT Interesting article, where I am disapointed (also including  myself) is that focus is on own interest. I do not care too much, but convenient life until death (for my wife and me) are important.

The noise of Ukraine is very justified (and I am very very sad on what happens), what is sad is that Europe tends to intend to ignore big killings (Ruanda (just a few decades ago). Of course 20/30 K deaths are terrible (no doubt), killing 1 mln people with hatchets (I think it is terrible, but more terrible that ignored).

I probably am depressed (not good) but the world has many many concerns (Yemen, South Sudan, but even Corona are ignored). Why people in Ukraine had more value then people in eg Sudan or (inflation (Sri Lanka)

I sleep sometimes, but .....
