Expat interest in politics in Oman

Post new topic

Hello everyone,

As an expat, your day-to-day life in Oman is impacted by decision-making at the political level in your host country as well as in your country of origin. We would like to know how involved you think expats should be in the political day-to-day of either their host or home country?

Can expats vote during elections which take place in their country of origin? Can you do so online or through embassies/consulates in Oman?

What is the administrative process which has been set up in Oman to enable expats to vote in their country of origin?

To which extent should political life in Oman include expats and their concerns? Should they be more active as a community to make their voices heard?

Are there any precautionary measures to observe during election period in your host country? Any local prohibitions?

Do you keep up with politics in Oman?

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Dear little one,

I hope you also an expat living elsewhere other than your country isn't it? well, political is interesting, but where am living no political influence in any aspects in the public life. we are expat and nationals are happily living here without any arguments or competitions.  Therefore, many are not aware of even the word politics. But as to myself, i was in complete involvement of politics in my place from my teenage to almost youth age. a very essential thing i had learned from my experience, Mr. Dawood Ibrahim's policy is better than the dirty games of politics. hence if you have any plan to invest your intelligence in politics, better rethink and divert your mind to some other way(lots of openings are in this cosmos) and choose according to your expansion of intelligence.
thanks

I gather that as a foreigner in a diminishing foreign workforce in Oman, it's prudent to keep some thoughts to myself if I wish to stay. As Omanisation rolls out I guess we have to respect that this is the wish of the country we are in.

I'm happy to take part in community activities that Omanis are also very much part of, which aim to better the environment of say beaches, residential and work environments. As a resident, for now anyway, I do my bit by eschewing one use only plastics as much as possible and supporting affordable public transport.

Although quite an effort, it's possible to cast national election and district electoral votes from here to my country and I remain in touch with political, academic, welfare and various other news and causes from home.
