Bringing car as a visitor -leaving without it...

japetus

I've heard conflicting opinions on whether you can or cannot exit from Turkey after you've entered with your car..
My personal experience is that I am not allowed to do so, at least by ferry, as some years ago I drove my car to Bodrum and was denied crossing with a boat for a daytrip to a greek island from there.

Friends from Greece however who frequently travel abroad through Turkey, tell me that they don't experience any issues entering Turkey by car, heading to Istanbul airport and fly from there for a return trip. As they told me, having a fixed date return flight ticket is the key to being allowed to exit the country.

The official https://ggm.gtb.gov.tr/frequently-asked … d-vehicles web page however states that:

Question: I have entered Turkey with my vehicle. Could I go abroad by leaving my vehicle in Turkey?
Answer: In case you bring your vehicle to Turkey within the scope of private use and would like to go abroad without your vehicle, you should get permission for going abroad without vehicle by applying to the nearest customs administration and signing a commitment within the General Customs Communiqué about the temporary importation of land vehicles (Serial Number: 1). Or you can go abroad without your vehicle by leaving it to the customs office.

Has anybody done this and is it an easy procedure?

i think it is to prevent handover of vehicles under market value (still profitable for seller as the taxes are too high in turkey). ans that's why only owner can drive, nobody else, in order to control this trade.
i dont have any personal experinece on this matter, in case noby replies yr post, you can try this doc.
