Couple of years back a friend move from VN to italy under te schengen agreement... she staye dun italy for 6 months befoee being able to move tk the UK..

Ill have to see if she have info how she manage it

Do you know what the reasons were ?

Yes, I know what the reasons were. As I said they were so open ended as to be nearly impossible to comply with.

1) Not enough finance shown
2) Not enough reason to return to Vietnam
3) Our relationship was not long enough established
In each case there is no target to aim at, so we could spend forever trying to meet these conditions.

I believe it is easier to get a visa under the Schengen Agreement especially for study, but Ireland is not party to this agreement.

Lets not forget the recent tragedy involving VN citizens, govts are weary after things like that happen.

If it was easier for people to travel legitimately, things like that tragedy would not happen.

People trying to enter through the back door is the very reason why these laws are put in place. If you are happy to let anyone and everyone in, god help us.

And if those people would stop illegal entry and overstays, it would be easier for others to come legitimately..

You are absolutely correct but it's all rather circular, isn't it.   It's all really too bad.

I think you are completely wrong there.

Yes I agree, people like my girlfriend are being punished for the wrongdoings of others, it makes no sense to me at all.

If you believe that,do some research as to what happens when you are soft on immigration.

Just like they are doing to expats in Vietnam, instead of targeting the problem, they lump everyone in to the same basket.

I think you are missing the point, this case has nothing to do with immigration, my girlfriend just wanted to come for a holiday. Completely above board.

Based largely on her country of origin and the immigration department's past experiences, It seems reasonable for your government to first assume she wants to overstay until she is able to prove otherwise to their satisfaction.

Agree, people before her have created the problem. Just have a look at how many Viets run away whilst on a tourist visa. 150 did just that in Sth Korea.

That's like being guilty of a crime unless you can prove your innocence, I don't think it's a reasonable assumption at all. I realise I can do nothing about it, but they are doubting her integrity and mine and not even coming straight out with it. I feel ashamed of my country over this, the Irish tourist board used to have a slogan "Ireland of the welcomes"!

The UK has become quite tough on visitors in the last 2 years, sadly this is why those that are desperate to enter the country will try and enter by all means.
