New members of the Spain forum, introduce yourselves here - 2020

Donniemontgomery

Hi,
I live in CA, and the son of a good friend of mine got his student visa for 180 days in Spain, which is likely what you'll need, and then you can apply for extensions into your nursing program.  You need to look for the Spanish Consulate Website closest to you-guessing Miami.  There you search for the student visa requirements. They are pretty much the same in each consulate but here they are for the Los Angeles Consulate:  http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados … -Visa.aspx
So you have to show your program acceptance, that you have a place to live the whole time, medical insurance and that you have the money to live for that length of time.  (You are allowed to work on a student bias but unemployment is really high there right now.) I believe all documents have to be translated into Spanish properly too. Once you have everything together you get an appt. to the Consulate.  Your airline travel has to be arranged around the granting of the visa too.  Good luck, Donna

Hi

We were due to visit the area next month to view some houses but our flights have been cancelled. Was interested to find out how you are getting on with regards your move? The area you are looking around is somewhere we have been looking too so hopefully you have some good tips etc

Thanks

Sue

Hi

We are hoping to move to Valencia from the UK.

We are looking for a property in the Valencia region, somewhere with a mature garden/land and a pool, not a huge drive to a golf course. If anyone is thinking of selling please get in touch. We had flights booked to come over to do some agency viewings but these have been cancelled. Our house is on the market in the UK but have a deposit so completion would be on our sale. Can anyone advise on areas to consider and if there are any places to go to enjoy Northern Soul music and dancing, events throughout the region? We have been to the Belamadina events and hoping there may be a scene in Valencia.

Ideally 3/4 bed rural house, garage would be great or outbuilding, views, private, up to 100,000 we are happy to re decorate but not structural work, we aren't that skilled!

If anyone has any knowledge of things to do in the area, we would appreciate the information.

Cycling groups, golf members, Spanish lessons, etc

Thanks

Hi, I've been in the country 3 years now, registered autónomo etc., would be great to meet others who are also learning Spanish, exploring southern Granada province, and occasionally wanting to bang their heads against the wall when things don't go smoothly   :unsure  - don't get me wrong, I love the place but every now and then we're all strangers in a strange land. I'm in a tiny town but hoping we expats really are everywhere.

How can i help you?

roby65

Hi,
my name is Roberto, 58 years old, Italian, single, and I live in Vecindario, Gran Canaria.
A good place, calm near to the beach, is Playa del Cura, between Puerto Rico and Mogan, in the south of the island.
With 2000 euros x month here you are a little queen. You can live a good life and save some money. Bettet you buy a caravan here, it's cheaper than in France and you'll avoid transport costs.
Regards, Roberto

Ciao Roberto,
Thank you so much for the tips.
I will definitely look into Playa del Cura. I'm trying to plan a trip to the Islands this winter but it's hard to plan anything right now as France keeps going in  and out of lockdown (but I believe that we are allowed to travel within the EU, although it's not very clear as in the same time we're not supposed to go further than 20 kms from home, so I guess that only applies to people who live by the borders :)
Great new also about the caravan. Because of my disability, I'm not eligible for a mortgage, so the idea for me is to buy a caravan and a small piece of land and live in it until I can save enough for a small house :)
Can we meet if I come for a visit?
Grazzie,
Emma

roby65

Yes, I live in Vecindario, Gran Canaria since 9 months. I'm a web translator. That's my job.
Ciao, Roberto

CanaryFrenchie

Great! I used to be a web programmer and a project manager ;)

roby65

Hi Emma, of course we can met each other, no problem. For the house, it's better you rent one, because is difficult to buy a piece of land they let you live in a caravan. For this purpose there are camping places. Any way in South of the island the houses are quite expensive (minimum 130.000 euros), where I live 80.000 euros.
Hope this help. Ciao

CanaryFrenchie

Cool, thanks.
What's the ball figure rent for a 2 bedroom house in the country, not far from a beach (I really don't want to be in the city or in a village. Here my next neighbor is 500 m away and I love this setting)?
Can we PM?

roby65

Hi, where I live a flat composed of one kitchen,
dining room, bathroom, bedroom rent costs is nearly 450-480 Euros per month plus eletricity, water and trash 40-50 Euros per month, total 500-530 Euros per month. Food nearly 230 Euros per month. In the south is 20-25 % more expensive. If you like to PM with me, write me an email by my web site double v double v double v dot canariasliving dot es
Ciao, Roberto

CanaryFrenchie

Great :) Thanks!
I sent you a whatsapp message.

Hello Everyone,

I live in Murcia already for many years, though I was born in London.
Over the last 20 years I have travelled across  world because of work and had the chance to visit and interact with several cultures, what gave me unforgettable cultural experiences.
I am currently running a consultancy firm ([link moderated]) and would like to be in contact with people from other countries / cultures.
If I can be of any help here for the expats great.

Thank You

Hi There,

How did you get on with declaring earnings etc? My wife and I are looking at moving to Spain in 2022 but I will be employed and paid in the UK as I work remotely. Any help on this topic is much appreciated.

Cheers,
Ben

Hi there Ben,

I've lived in Galicia for 11 years but in all that time I have been working for organisations which are tax exempt - firstly for an EU decentralised agency and more recently home-based for the UN.

It would be in your interests to consult an 'asesor fiscal' (like a kind of accountant) to take some advice on the procedures you'll need to follow.

Cheers,

Glenn

Hi Glenn,

Lucky being tax exempt! Perhaps I need a career change haha. Thanks for the information, much appreciated. I will try and get info via this route.

Cheers,
Ben
