An unpleasant brush with the law.

If you have never jumped off a bus with everyone else, in the middle of night and in middle of nowhere to do your business then you are a newbie in Vietnam.

Well yes, the reason being that we have had several break ins here over the last 12 months and security has seen nothing. Hardly surprising if they are sleeping. Anyway, a word to the security supervisor was judged better than having a word with the security manager, whose answer would have been instant dismissal of the individual concerned. Hopefully the supervisor will make arrangements for the bloke who needs to sleep.

We also know that although we pay a reasonable price for security here, the security company pockets the bulk of the money and the security guards get a pittance. This became clear when we found that the security guards were charging taxis, Uber (as was), Grab and trade vehicles a fee for entry to the estate.

As for my comment about the educational limitations of indiscriminate urinators - the comment actually came from my Vietnamese wife. Her words were “well if you have been to prison in Vietnam you don’t actually give a sh.t anymore”.  Whereas by and large the better educated will avoid such public displays of churlishness to avoid losing face. She went on to say that the vast majority of people in prison in Vietnam were poorly educated and thus less able financially to avoid being sent down.

Well, it is THEIR country after all - we're only 'guests' here.   I started here back in '67 & '68 conscripted and sent here by the army (war sux everywhere) - for various reasons,not the last of which was nightmares from those long ago days. Returned on 4th January 2012 and been here ever since.
Met the PERFECT LADY by pure chance on the internet. We 'chatted' nightly, using webcam as well to help 'seeing' how we reacted, helped to minimum mistakes between what we said and what we meant. After about a year of this I decided to take a holiday in VN - this time as a civilian.
She helped me out with everything - a great place to live in Sai Gon, drivers license, all the things needed for my apartment, PLUS she helped me try to learn about the history of VN and the people here. 
Long and short of everything was that following the VN way of doing things - SHE chose me - we honeymooned on the Island of Phuket, spent another day shopping in Bangkok then returned to Sai Gon.
LUCKILY she keeps me out of most things that would normally get me in some sort of trouble or even booted out of the country.
OH YES !!! - I'm now 73 and we haven't had  even one minor argument as yet !  :-)
