Moving from the UK to The Philippines

Post new topic

bwfc122

Hi All,

I need some help with moving from the UK to the Philippines.

The story is that I am moving over there to be with my girlfriend who have been with for 3 years and visited her loads of times over the years, but now we have decided to live together so this is the easiest option all things considered.

I am 27 and I am an IT Tech, my plan is to work online and do freelancing work.

My questions are:

What visa will I need?

How do I apply for the Visa and what documentation do I need?

Will I need a certain type of visa to work online?

I will be going over there again in June for a vacation (And to get the visa sorted etc) and then I plan on moving there in November this year.

We will be living on the island of Panay in Roxas City.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Jack

You will get a 30 day visa at the airport and then you have to go to immigration and get a 29 day extension. After that you can extend for 2 months at a time continuosly for up to three years. After 3 years you will have to leave the country even if it's just for a couple of days or so. When you come here although your coming to stay you have to have an onward air ticket or they may not let you enter the country. I don't think there are any rules about working online and many foreigners do that here.

Welcome to the forum Jack.
What Findlay says is true but working online and deriving an income from the Philippines involves tax and work permits etc.
If your income online is sourced from other countries then not a problem from my understanding and you will only have tax implications from the country/s your income is received from. OMO.

Hope others can help clarify this for you.

Cheers, Steve.

Hey Jack, you will get a 30 days on arrival, which you can extend upto 3 years, either a month at a time or upto 6 months at a time.

Regarding working online, you just work as it is kind of a grey area which cannot be regulated. There is no question of taxes as you are not a resident and just a tourist.

Only residents are required to pay taxes on all income, including income derived online.

"you will get a 30 days on arrival, which you can extend upto 3 years, either a month at a time or upto 6 months at a time" They no longer give 6 month visa extensions, only 2 months.

Just to clarify, will immigration in the Philippines let me through without a return ticket?

Also will I be able to apply for the visa in advance?

Also how much do the visas cost?

Kind Regards,

Jack

Jack, you will need an onward ticket or they won't let you on the plane to go here. Buy an onward ticket to Hong Kong or Singapore as far forward as you can when you book your flight to the Philippines. A cheap throw away ticket.

You can apply for your tourist visa in the UK but honestly I would simply  rock up and get the automatic 30 days. You can extend this for another 29 days with immi at the airport or go to an immi office after a few weeks and extend. From memory it's about PHP 3K for 59 days.

Good luck.

Cheers, Steve.

I know people whe have taken a risk and arrived without an onward ticket and they got away with it because the immigration officer never asked them if they had one, but if they do ask and you haven't got one you will be refused entry. Many countries will know the rules and they won't let you board your flight if you haven't got one, because they will be responsible for flying you back home if you are refused entry.

It is not so much the immigration officer, it is the airline.  If you are denied entry, the airline is on the hook to send you back.  The airline will enforce the onward ticket rule because of that.  While it may be possible to get away with it, I personally have been asked on several occasions.  You don't  actually need a return ticket, you only need an onward ticket which can be one way.

I heard that the cheapest throw away tickets right now are to China.

The information in all the previous posts are all correct, follow them  and you shouldn't have any problems... The cheapest "Throw Away Ticket" I found for when I came here was to Kota Kinabalu..The one way ticket there was only $40.  US... You will need a thru ticket when you move here but on your visit I'm going to guess you'll have a round trip ticket and that will be fine...I live in Roxas City so if you do need some info on the place let me know..

I am planning to retire to the Phills in 2 years... leaning towards Negros but would love to hear what you think of Panay?  Thanks

AaronAardvark

I just had my throw away ticket from jetstar canceled due to virus cancellations.  So I guess my throw away got thrown away.

Panay is a lovely island.  It all depends on what you want when you move here.  The island only has one real big city, Iloilo.. The smaller city that I live in has everything I need to be comfortable...There is plenty of public transportation throughout  the island, until the virus outbreak but that will pass.

I love Boraca and Negros..... I guess I need t spend some time in the island between them.  I am looking for the provincial life alt6nice if a city is only an hour away.

Perhaps since he will be working online perhaps info about local connections and power would be helpful.  Some on here have complained that having to work online greatly limited their location choices.
