Regarding government subsidy payment for sponsorship work visa worker

Jhukaji

Hi all,

I have concern regarding government subsidy payment. Person who have sponsorship work visa change the job and got visa for new employer on 20th March and after issue visa country lockdown. In this case employee need to get paid through new employer but have not start work with them and due to sponsorship visa cannot work to other place and other employer. If anyone have any experience/suggestion in this issue it would be appreciated.

Have a look at www.employment.govt.nz and www.covid.govt.nz for detailed information on wage subsidies from the government. Trust this would answer your query,

First of all, you need to understand that once you are associated with a company, you're its employee and all the employees no matter who's working for long or just started are equal. The employer is legally bound to benefit all the employees as per the government employment rules and the contractual obligations.
So in case your employer has agreed to pay the weekly wages with certain conditions, he should have to oblige the clause. If your employer does not support you,  then you may directly take the matter to the MSD. Please note that the wage subsidy is for all the working people regardless of their visa conditions. So have a word with your employer and proceed accordingly.

Many thanks for detail information. I just talk to my employer he said as I am new employee need to be in 90 days trial period, so due to corona virus he fire me provide 1 week notice he said (verbally) that is the reason he cannot apply for subsidy.

Ok!  This makes sense. He is right as the initial 3 months are probationary and your employer has the legal right to terminate without any particular reason.
So in that case, you must consult with the MSD and explain your situation. This is the only way you could get a benefit out of it. Otherwise, noone will be able to guide you on that.
