Hi, I am planning to retire in RD and wondering how my drawing on my USA 401k and my USA pension will be taxed; any help?  thanks.

Pension income is non taxable to you here in the DR.

thanks planner.   so is the USA pension taxed at sources by the US government?   where will it be deposited? to a USA account or DR account?

For those questions you are best to ask in USA forums.  This is a Dominican republic forum.

Your pension and Social Security will be taxed as normal in the USA.

OK, thanks, but how will USA SS know what tax rate apply?

RockyM

Not an easy question to answer since social security is taxed based on your income (i.e. if you have a job and earn income your SS may be subject to tax). 401k distributions are taxed as ordinary income. Pensions are a bit more complicated - depends on the type of pension. I am not a tax pro, and I would suggest  talking with a professional.

If you receive a pension, SS, 401k distribution or any other income from within the US, the IRS is notified by way of a 1099 form. This occurs just like your W-2 when you were working.

Your tax rate is determined on the total income of all sources. And you will have a tax liability based on this amount minus any deductions.

You can go onto any online tax preparers website, plug in the numbers and see where you end up. It’s free, just don’t submit it.

In addition, you may have a tax liability in the State you own property or have a vested interest in.

If you are not comfortable using a computer or have other complications with your income, I highly suggest you consult with a tax expert.

This is no different then if you lived in the US.  You file income tax if your yearly income is above a certain point.  Social security is taxed if you go above a certain income.  So depending on other sources of income (pension, working etc) you may have to pay tax on your social security.  We have ours direct deposited to a US bank account.

thanks to all!!!
