Just want to thank everyone for putting me in touch with Lishali. You are all right, she is amazing!
Thanks.
Sorry an over eager staff person moderated the post with the number again!
Update to our Renewal journey: I checked the DGM website Saturday morning, and they had appointments posted for us on Thursday morning. At least they're at the same time, so off to Santo Domingo we go. Honestly, the new online process is fairly simple, once you understand the category you fall in. Our mistake was trying to renew our Tempory Retirement Residency, when it should have been Renewing Temporary Residency. I thought since we had a retirement residency, we should renew a retirement residency. Nope! Just a plain old residency renewal. Lesson learned, so next year will be quicker. I hope? We renew our Cedulas too, but from what I understand, as soon as we have a valid residency card, the Cedula is no problem. We went through this with our lawyer the first time, and I strongly reccomend that everyone does, but the renewal seems doable by ourselves. If you're not here full-time, or don't know the way things are done specifically in the DR, then I suggest a lawyer to assist. My Spanish is still extremely basic, but running a company here for the last 10 months has given me confidence I can muddle through this process. It will be harder for the people I speak to, than for me! 😁
Cedula - Yes -
once the renewed Residency is in hand.....
a quick trip to the Cedula office (provided your appt is early enough at renewal)
Should be - In/Out
and you're done for another year !!
You recommend that everyone go thru a lawyer, yet you had one, but still didn't get it right. So what did you pay him for? Didn't he know the difference between those two categories?
Colonel - I believe he stated the FIRST TIME they applied for renewal they used a lawyer. THis time they did not and the error occurred whilst learning the correct terminology this time around by themselves...cheers...
I read it as -
Used a lawyer for initial application (not renewal)
Went bareback for renewal #1..... messed up the category
but fixed easily
The Colonel is confusing the troops...... report him to the General !!
haha
You guys are funny.
Yup colonel misread! Don't worry no firing squad this time..... We all misread at times. Colonel be a bit nicer please if possible!
I asked a question about something that was not clear.......to more people than me.
Really was not a question as much as a judgement Colonel. You read it wrong. Lets move on.
Final installment of our renewal: Success! It was very straightforward at Migration. Info kiosk for a badge to enter the lobby, they found us with a ticket when the computer spit it out at our appointment time. Up to the window when called, and hand them copies of EVERYTHING we submitted, and then some. We weren't taking a chance that we missed something, so they got copies of it all. Into the office for pictures and finger prints, then to the window and submit our payment receipts for online payment previous to booking the appointment, and then the card is issued to us minutes later. We arrived 35 minutes early, waited until our exact appointment time, and were called up to start the process. In total, about 25 minutes. Really really good, as far as I'm concerned. The cedula office was even faster, 20 minutes in and out. The Governments computer system is on Turbo, it seems.
Nice going...... Yes, the cedula office is usually fast !!
Encouraging to hear DGM was efficient..... new team in charge !!
I am going through the process with Lishali or as most call her Lily. She is wonderful. Basically you have to make over $1500 per month and get a bunch of stuff apostille and notarized. She makes it easy and she is fair. Besides being a very nice person.
GRACIAS ERICH!
Thank you Hilda!!
You are quite right! She is our attorney as well and she is super. Can't wait to get to our new home!
My girlfriend and I have been working with Lily....she is AMAZING!!! Honestly, I don't know how anyone gets through the residency process without her help and guidance....
It is convoluted, documents are very specific, the Miami DR consulate can be a challenge but through all of it, Lily "held our hands", guided us and made things happen at the consulate. She is professional, knowledgeable, responsive and proactive.
She is very reasonably priced and worth EVERY penny.
I cannot speak highly enough of her. She is a godsend!
Thank you Lily!!!!
A question:
I self direct all of my investments and what I pull out of that on a monthly basis, added to my Social Security would get me over the $1,500/month threshold.
However I do not have a bank account in the DR, instead withdrawing funds at DR banks using my debit card since all of my business is already linked to my US bank.
The question is: Can I just save all of my withdrawal slips to show I am pulling significant USD out and bringing it into the DR as pesos where, of course I am spending it all? That would easily make up the 'extra' needed.
Thank you kindly if anyone has any guidance in this regard.
Jay
Hi Lily
I suspect you don't represent Canadians for residency do you know anyone we are moving there in May next year as a retired couple
Jack
Jay - self directed savings do not qualify honey. Sorry.
New bigining - Are you asking about being Canadian and wanting Residency here in the DR? If so Lily can help you, that is exactly what she does!
IF you are looking for residency in Canada then no.
I am Cdn... she did me - and my wife..
She does DR applicants -- from any countery
Sorry for the confusion we are Canadians and moving to our new home in Sosua ocean village 01 May 2021 so want to get residency as retired If liz can help how do I get ahold of her
Thank you
Thank you WillieWeb
Call or whatsapp +18098601231. That is her direct number. Her name is Lishali but she also goes by Lily.
Very much appreciated
Be safe
New bigining - one thing to keep in mind before applying for residency! Although cannabis is now legal in Canada (and many places in the US), it is NOT legal here and if found in your system when you have your medical exam for residency, you will be denied!
That's is definately not an issue for us. But thanks
Do yourself a favor, Email Lily at libaezm@gmail.com ask her and I promise she will explain she speaks perfect english and spanish and knows all the ins and outs. She is truly a wonderful person that cares

If I had been in a state/country where it was legal, it could very well have been an issue for me!
Willie,
Please help a beginner understand.
When you reference "114", what are you referencing?
Post number 114?
>> At least on my mobile, I don't see any numbering on the posts in this thread.
What am I missing?
