Expats and Ecuadorians can now renew their ID's or obtain a first-time temporary cédula while avoiding long lines at a government office. The ID is good for two months.

The government is providing step-by-step guidance for obtaining such a temporary ID via a website. The process is reported at www.cuencahighlife.com, in an item posted there today. (It is one of various reports under a title that begins with "Private hospitals...")
