Need advise : Plan to get married but stuck due to border closure

Hi all,

I am Malaysian woman currently based in KL and my partner is German with Dutch PR.
We are planning to get married and for me to move to NL, but due to pandemic, border is closed and we unable to see each other for 6 months now.

Now that we already planning to get married, but both unable to meet, he unable to enter Malaysia, and I'm unable to enter Netherlands, is there any possible way that I can try so we can get married and be in the same place again.

I am really in a very low point now, it's very frustrating and sad 😔 that I'm unable to see my other half for half a year now, and the uncertainty when we can meet again just slowly killing me.
I have emailed Dutch embassy and IND, but they only gave me website link about Q&A travel, and that's all. Nothing further advise or opinions.

If I still need to wait until border is open, how long more than. I really can't stand waiting for a year or so. It's really inhumane to keep us apart like this 😔😢

I really hope anyone could advise or help me on this. I'm just really sad and down now thinking about our situation.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

I suspect you've already answered your own question; if neither of you can cross a border where you can be together and then marry, then you can't get married.

There are many places around the world where you can get married quite quickly; this link will take you to a website that talks about ones in Europe, although COVID may well cause you issues in these places as well.

Thanks for the reply. However I refuse to just accept and wait under this uncertainty of when the border will be open again. I believe there might be other people in similar situations with us, thus I'm looking for advice if there is any ways possible or exception to allow people to enter NL to get married.
Appreciate if anyone facing similar situation or in the process of working on it like me could share, so I can start somewhere too.
