Very probably a scam.
They've got one lot of cash so, if things follow the common path, they'll ask for more soon.

What you should have done is to call the company directly to verify the job offer. That means googling the company name and contacting them directly and not using the number provided by the person who offered you the job. Find the number yourself and ask to speak to that person or the HR Dept. and verify that the job is legitimate.

If this is a scam, the scammers will usually give you the correct name of the HR person but the number will be different, and when you call the number the scammer has given you they will pretend to be the person you are looking to speak with. That is why you should contact the company directly and never use the information given by the potential scammer.

Malaysia is famous for job scams and their aim is to get people to send money to them, usually for things like visas or processing fees etc. Also it is already suspicious that they asked you to send money in advance.

My recommendation is to do as I suggested, google the company name and find the HR department and contact them to check if they have indeed offered you a job.

You and a good few others

Wave goodbye to the money but, if it's possible, report the scam to the cops. Fair chance that's a waste of time, but it has to be worth a try.

These scammers are very clever, so if you suspect it seems a bit strange, find the hotel website in google and contact the Human Resources Department yourself and DO NOT call any numbers provided by the scammers

.

You cannot report anything to immigration. If the job offer is legitimate then there is nothing to report. If it is a scam then you've already lost your money.

Actually I am confused by your last message. Are you currently in the Philippines and are they telling you to come to Malaysia to get back your money? Normally if there are documents to sign why can't they courier them to you?

Secondly, as I have already pointed out, the name of the HR manager may well be Sofia Lin Tan. But if you are dealing with a scammer they will often use the name of a real person in the company.

Again, the only way to check whether the job is legitimate or a scam is to google the company and to contact them directly to verify it. That means not using the telephone number or email that they gave you but finding out the contact details from searching google.

However, my feeling is that there is a good chance you have been scammed. This issue comes up now and again and what we always advise is not to send any money.
