No one is selling vaccines,. You need some reading comprehension.

In fact just the opposite of what you just "spouted."

But if you think mandatory vaccine is not what is being pushed then you are dumb indeed.

You claim to be from Australia and you do not know what your own leaders are saying about requiring vaccines? Are you sure you are from Australia?

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/08/19/vaccine … -says.html

Maybe if you would be more thoughtful to understand what you are reading before you run your mouth you would not look so foolish.

and you suck it yourself since you are the pro

We are all entitled to our opinions as we do. I have noticed most if not all of your negative opinions (here and other submissions) are unsubstantiated and perhaps you should end with OMO. Or offer references backing up your thoughts.

My response here is simple, Yes I'm an Aussie, yes I read and comprehend and form my own conclusions right or wrong that is only my opinion (OMO)

Reading and comprehension. Perhaps you sir should also read the link that you posted and used that as a tool to legitimise yourself calling me a fool. An exert from that link:

"Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison has backtracked on comments he made saying that he planned to make coronavirus vaccinations as mandatory as possible.

“Can I be really clear to everyone? It’s not going to be compulsory to have the vaccine, OK?” Morrison said Wednesday on Australian radio station 2GB. "

OMO but forcing people to vaccinate would/could be worse than this pandemic.

Back on track, I see last night on TV a new tourism advertisement (very well done). So for me this government, PH. is starting to gear up for tourism. But hey, OMO.

Cheers, Steve.

they also said in the start that face diaper would not be mandatory

how did that work out?

and as for unsubstantiated opinions

reality is proving your opinions to be unsubstantiated

does anyone look at the numbers?

everyone going crazy because cases are rising

but did anyone look at the status of the cases?

look at it

over 98% have no symptoms this because at least 10x as many people have it as have been tested

why no one talking about that?

isn't that the real story here?

here is some substantiation for those with heads in sand

Philippines says schools won't reopen until there is a Covid-19 vaccine
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/ … 19-vaccine

Without a vaccine yet to prevent COVID-19’s spread, President Duterte’s economic managers have tempered growth expectations for next year despite recovery from this year’s recession.
https://business.inquirer.net/304688/co … l-for-2021

President Rodrigo Duterte has expressed hope that the Philippines "will be back to normal" by December, when he expects a vaccine against Covid-19 to emerge out of China

"I promise you, by the grace of God, I hope by December we will be back to normal," he said during his regular briefing aired on Friday (July 31).

"Let's just wait for a vaccine. Let's wait till December, if we can just be patient... We are not going back to a 'new normal'. It's going to be normal again," he said.

Escudero: DOH ‘riding out’ COVID-19 crisis in PH ‘until vaccine is invented’
https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1313377/e … s-invented

Until a vaccine is found, the coronavirus will continue to rule our lives through stringent measures like wearing of face masks and social distancing, even as we grapple to secure our jobs and livelihood and reconstruct our economies
https://www.socialwatch.org/node/18524

Until a vaccine or cure is developed, mask-wearing remains one of the most effective and feasible health practices that can protect the public from possible infection;

"It is vital that these regions reopen. The reality is that this virus will not go away until a vaccine is found. In the meantime, we must get back to work while staying safe," Dominguez earlier said.

Filipinos need to hang on longer and endure coronavirus restrictions until a vaccine is available,
https://www.gulf-times.com/story/669659 … -available

It says the lowest 20% get it for free.It does not say the rest don't have to. If you think that you are the guy who gets to opt out then just think about that when you try to go shopping without your mask.

I really did a lot of snipping on your post.

This is the reality: ASTRA ZENECA Covid19 vaccine study paused after one illness.

A vaccine from China? They shipped dog food to the US that killed hundreds of dogs.

Lets all just watch movies tonight instead of the news.
Sure, it’s good to keep up with current events, but there’s no question that the news can be very stressful. If you find that watching the news is stressing you out, go ahead and take a break from it. Use that time to catch up on your fave guilty-pleasure shows.
I really see NO point slamming one another nor forcing your perspectives on others.
Give a thought for those who really have NO options & thank god that we still do.

Thanks

Richard Yan

Yes brother. Overloaded with covid19 news.  Just watch movies and silly things in Facebook.  And yes, I downloaded 16 books from my library.  This keep me sane. Also got my brandy coffee n cigarettes.  😀😀

This thread is getting tedious and heated through differing personal opinion. So, I’ll throw my opinion into the works, without being offensive.

Whatever we think of the COVID-19 related decisions made by government here in the Philippines or the respective governments back in our home country. There is little we can do about it. Here, we expats don’t even have a vote to influence change.

If we don’t like what is happening and the rules that are imposed, as expats, we have the option to go home and face whatever restrictions are in place there (if one could get transport that is). In my case, I would be no better off in my home country than I am here. The restrictions there are different but just as much of an inconvenience.

Only time will tell how long the restrictions will last and what the new normal will be. The one thing that is certain is that, if the world continues to react to the virus as it is now, economies will collapse to a point where ordinary people cannot afford to survive. Many people will find themselves living on the streets, not such a problem here as people are unlikely to freeze to death in winter.

Governments may start to change policy only when there are more people dying from restriction related issues than from the virus. It will then be too late to save the lives of many that are stuck in the poverty trap. Eventually the masses will react adversely if they perceive there to be too much or too little done by way of restrictions. Either way that would loose politicians votes and so help ensure that the a compromise is made.

Wise, honorable governments (if there is such a thing) will be monitoring both the effects of the virus and the effects of the restrictions so as to safeguard their economy and their public as best htey can. As with most things, compromise is necessary to reach the right balance between virus spread and adverse affects of the restrictions. One would hope that this compromise is one that results in the loss of fewest lives rather one that secures most votes. The compromise might be different depending on the circumstanses in different places.

I shall continue through the crisis as best as I can and I will watch with interest how the whole mess works out.

Great Post Steve,

My own situation, being retired with ss better than some,  I live close to a Western lifestyle. I guess soon I'll stop paying $20 for 3 lbs of Folgers ground coffee. So with SS I have a steady income compared to the  working society in the Fil. So retired Expats like me will have it better than the average citizen during these times.

I do help some others with cash or food from time to time besides feeding a large household of adults. The things important to me is a safe place to live and good food on the table.

The only concern is what the outside world (outside my doorstep) will bring to me with a deteriorating lifestyles inflicted on them with little or no recourse. I can imagine what a desperate society  is capable of doing.

My two big stepsons in the household would be a deterrent to the typical Filipino. For years and years I always kept an aluminum bat at my front door.

Definitely...but even before the movie Mulan....I just couldn't resist blasting off my  karaoke machine...as singing helps me to COOL my nerves with my tanduay rhum close by....not too sure about how my neighbours are feeling though.

Guys, we need to stop the name-calling and personal attacks. It is disrespectful, against forum rules, and will not be tolerated..

Really? Could of sworn this was a free for all the way people talk to each other here. Maybe just maybe the website needs more moderators paying attention.

I'm not.

You are correct and I apologise for my indiscretions and will word my responses with more diplomacy in future. Thanks for the reminder/slap pnw.

Cheers, Steve.

Ditto and now back to the OP's topic. As said in another submission, Philippines tourism has started a new advertising campaign aimed I'm sure internally but also for international tourism. While it is still difficult to travel internally and even more so from international borders perhaps they know more than us or simply had funds to exhaust. Personally I view this as positive but only time will tell.

Cheers, Steve.

In Davao there is an Ordinance against loud noise nothing over 60 dB except in construction, I have a big sound system but keep it in check, if you have a complaint against loud music the police tell you cut the electric wire, and if they complain to police when they come out they will fine them

bigpearl

An interesting change of topic Okieboy, Perhaps deliberate to shift an interesting situation in this thread?
60 Decibels is not loud but it depends on the distance it is measured at, 2M, 7M, 20M, who knows how they can enforce a 60 dB law when general conversation or background music is 60dB? A whisper is 30dB and a vacuum cleaner is 75 dB.
Perhaps a new thread? OMO.

Cheers, Steve.

Fil-Am Mom

We all are in uncertain times. Decisions may change every week depending on the situation.

I don't often watch local news, and just depend on the internet for updates on rules, regulations and the current situation. But I find myself as less up-to-date than my housekeeper because she gets info on local news tv.

Some of the citations on some of the posts on this thread are outdated (such as the one regarding school opening / closing and distance learning modalities for students).

So many things change almost everyday. We just need to adapt and accept that there are things that are beyond our control right now as we are in a war with the virus. Like recently, at least 2 of our potential vaccine arsenal had been scrapped for failing at stage 3.

Sometimes, I wonder if a vaccine is the solution. When vaccination was discovered by Edward Jenner, it was like a "Eureka!" moment. It took a lot of effort to promote it and convince others that it was better, more effective, and less risky cure than then current and more accepted practice of inoculation.

Pharma companies are so focused on making an effective vaccine because that's the norm. I think more research should be done on determining why young children are less prone to develop severe symptoms of Covid-19. Maybe what's needed is outside-the-box kind of thinking. Maybe a vaccine is not the solution, but instead a not-yet-discovered process called "de-covidation" arising from the research on why young kids are not as likely to develop severe symptoms compared to adults.

My 2 cents

Hello everyone,

Please note that a few posts had to be removed from this thread.

Holding differing opinions should not give way to throwing insults at each other. Please be mindful of that.

I would encourage you to be courteous in your future posts.
