Will there be some 'Covid exemption' from the 15 days stay requirement for years 2020 and 2021? It's been practically impossible to travel to Sarawak, and the situation seems unlikely to change much before 2022.

Hi there,

Yes. Given the current circumstances.

Best regards.

Hello everybody,

first of all, I wanna thank you for this useful information.

I am interested to apply for the Sarawak-MM2H prgramme but head I must do it via a Sarawakian agent (10 registered ) bcz somebody should be our sponsor and they could be. would you please address me about an active agency if you know. My second question is what if we apply just through offshore income (10000 rm). Is there any chance or we must give a deposit?
Thank you

aramazmm2h

Hi,

I am Jonathan, You could apply for Sarawak MM2H either by placing a fixed deposit of RM150,000 (single)/RM300,000 (couple), or by showing proof of monthly offshore income of RM7,000  (single)/RM10,000 (couple).

Approval under the offshore income very much depends on how strong your supporting documents are.

Best regards.

Hi Jonathan,

We want to apply for the smm2h for my mom, she’s 74. Does she need health insurance and if she does, is there any insurance company that would be willing to give that? Thank you!

aramazmm2h

Hi Cakelover,

Glad to know that you are interested in the Sarawak MM2H (SMM2H) programme.

Those above 60 years old are exempted from the medical insurance requirement. This is due to the difficulty of getting one for those in that age group as usually the last entry age for medical insurance ranges from 60-69 years old.

Let us know if you have more questions on the SMM2H programme, we would be happy to brief you in detail. Thank you.

Best regards.

Could you please post where it states that those above 60 years old are exempted from the medical insurance requirement.

Cheers

I picked up my MM2H 2 years ago and the way I read is that you get 10 years, 5 years initially and one extension of 5 years, so total 10 years.
Should I wish a further 10 year, which would be the same, 5 + 5, I have have to apply for renewal, to do this needs a new application as per the current program requirements at that time
https://mtac.sarawak.gov.my/upload/file … MM2H/smm2h application guide (1).pdf

By the way, if you read what the Federal Government have done to the reinstated MM2H policy there, you will get an idea where a lot of those new applications for S- MM2H will come from

Hi Petemac2001,

It’s not stated in any of the official printed materials. But we have the confirmation from the Sarawak authority.

Best regards.

If you picked it up two years ago, that was before the rules changed (Sept 2020, IIRC). Thus you should be grandfathered in and only have to comply with the old rules when it comes to renewal. At least that is what @Cinnamonape was told when he inquired quite some time ago.

Petemac2001

Did you get this in writing or just verbal?

Cobolin

Pretty sure it was only verbal. It wasn't me, it was the topic starter. You can read his account of what he was told on page 1 of this thread.

aramazmm2h

It’s in writing, through our official correspondence.

Precisely...Sarawak MM2H will be inundated with new applications as those already with MM2H come up for renewal. Especially if they have property that they have bought in the Peninsula.

For now there is still the Sarawak "back door" - a Sarawak M2H visa allows one to live in the Peninsula OR in Sarawak (or anywhere else where one can get a visa). They only require a 15 Day annual visitation policy...and that's to renew the visa for another 5 years.

I doubt that the Sarawakian Govt will cut that off, but the Federal Government might...though that might be difficult and complex. Certainly many with homes or established roots in the Peninsula may need an option when their visas come up for renewal. They may need to transfer to the Sarawak program...and if worst comes to worst make a move to Sarawak.

It's not for everyone though. Over 50 is easy...but those under 50 have three options (single/couple).

1) 40-50 years old must buy a residential property at >RM600,000 (that's @US $150K) plus meet either the Pension/Offshore Income Requirement (RM7000/RM10,000/month) OR the Fixed Deposit requirement (RM150K/RM300K)
2) 30-50 years old with children enrolled in a Sarawak School....No property purchase but must meet ONE of the above Finacial requirements for offshore income/Fixed Deposit.
3) 30-50 with an authenticated treatment program for a long-term illness with a Government Licensed Sarawak Physician or Clinic.

Still at RM90/year visa. Requires a Health checkup in Sarawak and a Local (Sarawakian) Sponsor or Agent.

I don't think the new (September 2020)  requirements on this point are any different from the old ones actually. And yes, you should be grandfathered in. Just remember to keep your original letter which states the conditions of Income (which hasn't changed) or Fixed Deposit (which went up to RM150K single/300K couple).

For those over 50 APPLYING there were virtually no changes except the latter FD increase, plus a local insurance policy (which may or may not be waived for those over 60). The big changes were allowing agents, the creation of a 40-50 category (requiring a Property Purchase), and the 15 days per  year visitation requirement.
