Hello everyone

I will be moving to KL in early 2021 (if Covid permits) with my 5 year old son. My office is near Petronas Towers and I do  not drive. I am keen to explore international schools near KLCC. I am happy to explore the schools in other areas as long as there are decent condos in the area close to public transport. My budget is between RM 35k-45k per year for the schools and aroung 4k-5k for a 3 bedroom apartment.

I live in Singapore currently and Eton House here is pretty good. Keen to hear reviews about Eton House KL as well.

Looking to hear from all you experts :)

You can find apartments within your price range even within walking distance to Petronas Towers, especially the older ones. Any agent can find you those. The property market has been pretty stagnant for several years and with Covid-19 there is an even greater oversupply of apartments for rent so you may be able to get a better or newer one within your price range. Older places such as 202 Desa Cahaya which is just between the Thai and French Embassies is old with many three bedroom apartments and a swimming pool. I'm not at all recommending it because it is old but I did have a couple of apartments there a long time ago and the rents were about Rm5k to 6k, but being a renters market you should be able to negotiate a good rent. A better place might be Hampshire Residences which is really close to Petronas Towers. Also consider Panorama KLCC Condominium. Actually there are so many condos in this area that agents can easily show them to you. Don't worry about using an agent as they get their commission from the landlord and you just need to remember to bargain the price down.

As for schools, I am not familiar with the cost of school fees these days, but i am sure others here will provide you with that information.

Hello fellow KLers

We have researched more into schools and have zeroed in to (1) Saint Joseph International, (2) International School at Desa Park City and (3) GEMS International School. Would you be able to help me compare the schools.

My key criteria for schools are: (a) teacher and student diversity (b) Good balance between academics and extra activities (for example, quite like Singapore maths in Saint Joseph), (c) Swimming as part of curriculum (d) ease of travel to Equatorial Plaza (thats where my office is going to be) either by public transport or cab.

My condo budget is 4k-5k for a 3 bedroom. Would really appreciate recommendations on condos as well keeping in view the schools.

Looks like am asking a bit much here. Any insights will be highly appreciated :). I have never visited KL and may not get a chance to visit before the final move (thanks to Covid) so relying a lot on secondary research.

Thanks in advance!

Might be a little late but did you look at Alice Smith School? Very highly thought of.

Thanks for the note.

We did think of Alice International in the beginning but it out of our Budget:).

Cheers

There are loads of international schools in KL. Here are some lists. Think about where you will be living too as nobody likes being stuck in rush hour traffic. Sayfol is in Ampang and not far from KLCC:

Thanks for your reply.

We have zeroed down to the schools- Saint Joseph International, International School at Desa Park City and GEMS international. As next step, we are seeking comparison of these schools.

Would be great if you or someone could help us with that.

Thanks.

I am a Singaporean living at Hampshire Park , a condo that is walking distance to Petronas TwinTowers. Very convenient location. I love it here.

My kids are all adults now and have studied in international schools in other parts of the world but not KL, so I don’t have first hand experience with the schools here,

ISKL is the nearest but it’s an American curriculum school, but maybe it’s okay if you are here for only one or two years, won’t be that affected by curriculum change in future.

If my kids had to go to school here, I would have aimed for Alice Smith School but it’s a long bus ride for a 5yr old.

Being a Sporean mom, I always bought Spore Math assessments books for my kids when they were schooling. I do Math with them at home when they were younger and bought  self-help books for them when they were older. So, do stock lots of books in your household shipment if you are a kiasu mom like me😆My kids excel in Math, so it must have worked!
But don’t forget to give them an all-rounded education , take advantage of being out of the pressurised Spore education system.

Hampshire Park is quite a luxurious apartment building in a really great location, although it is quite old now. It's most famous for a huge gas explosion in one of the apartments. Just behind it are more modern apartment buildings and less expensive such as Hampshire Place, Hampshire Residence and Panorama and quite a few others all at different rental ranges. The condos south of Jalan Ampang near KLCC are generally more luxurious and more expensive.

Thanks for the replies. I will definitely look into these :)
