NIF or bank account required for D7?

Post new topic

I am considering applying for D7, and of all the documents required for D7 listed by VFS, there is no requirement for NIF or bank account opening. Does that need to be done before the application? I read a lot, finding people getting a NIF and opening an account after arriving in Portugal. So my question is are these two required for D7 application? Many thanks!

Hi Natalie,

NIF is not necessary for D7 visa application, however a Portuguese bank account is a must to show that you have proof to your money in Portugal.

The bank account in Portugal will be a part of the document that you will need to submit together with all other documents that you submit to VFS.

You will need to have your NIF for the application for any bank account in Portugal. Without the NIF, it is not possible to open an account.

Hope it answers your questions.

Hi Natalie, welcome.

Philip has already answered everything.

I would add the following link (post #3):

You will also need a NIF to prove evidence of adequate accommodation, and (probably) a bank account to proof evidence of sufficient finances available to the applicant in Portugal (I should say it is the simplest way to comply this requirement).

Best regards.

I just had my appointment with VFS. They told me as of 7/26/2021 you must have a Portugal bank acct. when you apply for VISA.  They told me you can get this without NIF.  I have been searching for a Portuguese bank that will open an account without a NIF  and haven’t found one. Can anyone help me on this?
