Hi All,
We may be moving to Quito in 2021 as teachers considering a job there. We have spent a couple of years in Brazil  and realise if you believe everything you read about the dangers you would never go. Our experience in Sao Paulo was wonderful, just keep your wits about you and follow sensible guidelines. Has anyone lived/worked in Quito? We have a young child under 7 yrs to consider. Any response welcome!!

Yes, I have.  I have a condo in Centro Histórico.

What would you like to know?

Hey! Thanks for the reply.
What would I like to know? Well firstly we are taking our 5 year old into a country where we know no one so will he/we be safe? If you read and believe everything on the web you might consider it unsafe but after living in Sao Paulo Brazil for the past 2 years we know that the experience isnt necessarily what you read online.
The town of Quito looks good. We imagine it will be fabulous to live there so if you can tell us about safety/our son/ and then anything we should be aware of would be great.

Also insider tips for enjoying Ecuador/Quito? We probably need to live around Monteserrin/el batan to be able to walk to work so if you know anything about finding a great 3 bed rental? Furnished/unfurnished?? Pitfalls??
Anything you could tell a family with a young child in tow ready to take an adventure would be most appreciated!!

We thank you in advance!

Will he/we be safe?

Dear M,

As much as you would like reassurance about your family's safety, nobody can reliably predict the future, least of all for a child he doesn't know who is moving to a new country.

You may need to take precautions, set up systems to monitor his progress, provide favorable environments at home and at school, and be diligent as parents.

Take advantage of any counselors, attorneys and parents of other school-age children to learn what you can.

Check listings in local papers and on the walls of Internet cafés in your neighborhood of choice.  Walk the neighborhood(s) looking for signs Arrendar or Aquilar in residential windows .. and follow up.

Advice about whether to rent furnished or not is beyond my capacity based on the information available.
