Hi guys,

I'm moving to Jubail next week to teach english.
can you guys tell me how Im going to entertain myself when not working?
I hear the beach is the place to be,
is there any surfing, kite surfing or windsurfing to do there?
what about other hobbies like can you learn martial arts or do acting classes there?
Are there any English speaking radio stations in jubail?

Armand

Hi Ronan,

I've lived in Jubail now for 2 months. In terms of entertainment,
social life is what you make it. There are restaurants, shopping
malls, internet cafe's, beach parties (if you know Saudi's).

But in truth, unless you are living on a Western compound, is isn't
easy to meet Westerners. Forums and blogs such as these help, and of course there are certain 'hotspots' such as the Intercontinental hotel and Applebees in the Al Huwaylat complex.

Hope that helps. If you want any help looking around the place,
then just send me an email through this blog with contact details and I'd be happy to help. I'll also let you know me and my buddies are having any parties.

Hi Ronan,
welcome to Jubail. I am not sure about the surfing activities. I know there is SCUBA diving (I suggest this one wink.png ).
I am planning on going fishing sometimes in the next couple of weeks. If you are interested, let me know wink.png. Hmm... You can go to the gym if you are into sports. There is martial arts lessons (I have seen kids doing some sort of martial arts at Al Huwaylat gym). Other than that, eating out!
I have been here for 2 weeks now and I am looking for things to do as well. Please let us know if you find other activities smile.png

Hello everyone and Eid mubarek for those who are muslim!
I am surprised nobody wrote about it.... A year ago I was in Jubail for Eid and they had in the Intercontinental Hotel really nice programs especially for the kids. You should give it a try! There are also jetsky to rent as far as I remember.

Assalaamu 3laiukum wr wb & Hellooo.

MOVING TO JUBAIL from LONDON in a week to teach English inshaAllah. WHat is there to do there? Surfing, diving all sound A-M-A-Z-I-N-G so if someone could let me know when and where inshaAllah I'd be very grateful.

Also, what normally happens on Eid as I'll be spending it in Jubail by the looks of things; this will be my first Eid in a Muslim country, exciting times.

Hope to hear back from you guys soon.

GuestPoster1032

FM Station..... Natal day.... this is sounds a little to high tech for me. What happened to good old Skype, or making good use of the wonderful selections of telecommunication providers that are readily available big_smile.png

Oh wait, sorry, we're in Jubail... perhaps you could use good old Skype, or make good use of the wonderful selections of telecommunication providers that are readily available big_smile.png

Let me know how you get on and WELCOME TO AL-JUBAIL

Oh calm down *pat on head*  I agreed with you that I doubt this happens in KSA! tongue.png

GuestPoster1032

Oooooooooh...lol So thats what NATAL means. I'm from England and that certainly isn't an expression we use.

I would also share agreement in saying that Birthdays aren't really a celebrated thing in Saudi, it happens, but its not something that isn't widely broadcasted.

GET CREATIVE, record your voice over an instrumental singing happy birthday. Who did that for one of the Presidents?

Are there any good beaches in Jubail?  I'm stuck at the Rezayat and the pool is all we have.

Scholor

Hi,
I recently moved to Jubail from UK and I am interesting in fishing and diving. It would really help if I could find some friends having same interests.

amrbialy

Guys, I just got here last friday. I am looking for water activity groups(wake, kiteboarding ..etc). What other activities can someone do, I  dont live in a compound as am here for a short stay(a month)

Please If there is somewhere where I can practice any water sport tell me. I am dying of boredom here. Save me

I keep reading about scuba, please give a definitive location for training, someone must know!

Kiv44

Fishing, I have camp full of guys up here who would love to go, we have a mixed bunch , Arabians, phillapinos, Indians, Rumanians, even the odd Brit.  I have seen the boats in the harbour near fanateer mall, is it turn up and go? Prices for big boat quoted as 400 SAR per hour, any help appreciated, even willing to make up on the numbers to learn the system. We have Hindi speakers, Urdu, Arab, Tagalog, English, (well Mancunian version )  kit supplied or bring your own?
Thanks,

amrbialy

In intercontinental Jubail, they have a diving instructor for 1300SAR I think I cant remember exactly the price.

There's also a dive shop at Karan Hotel in Fanateer - its accesible from the back of the building. It's called Pearl Diver and they offer PADI courses and organize dive trips.

@amrbialy - Where do you kite-surf? Do you think it will be OK for me to tag along and watch one of these days?

amrbialy

I just arrived and have no gear right now, and still searching for other kiters to join. but had no luck yet.

If I found a group I will tell you. In Jeddah it was so much easier to find them and join them.

Hi, I'm moving from Ireland to Jubail tomorrow to teach English for a year. It's my first time to do anything like this. I won't be living on a compound and I have heard hat this can make it difficult to have a bit of fun and socialise. Just wondering what exactly there is to do, is there many 'westerners' around etc etc. Basically, what is there to do in Jubail to blow off a bit of steam?

Beakersful

You definitely need a car if you're staying long term, or obtain numbers for 'private' taxi drivers.  There's no public transport system here.  A drive down to Dammam/Khobar may alleviate things, and of course there's the causeway to relative 'freedoms' at a cost.

The beaches are filthy here. I can't decide if the greater worry is the petroleum plant pollution or the rubbish.

Has your company offered you accommodation or a housing allowance?  Accommodation for westerners costs a fortune here, 90% are higher than the housing allowance most companies give you.

ps. you're probably here now.  Unlucky you only had a day before you came over to find this forum.  Always ensure you put feelers out well before you move to another country or you're up the creek without a paddle.

Where is scuba diving in jubail

PAKman2328

I see that this posting thread is pretty old, but I was wondering if I could bring new life to it.  I'm planning to move to the Jubail / Dammam area in the next week or so and I haven't been able to find a lot of groups.  My last two years were spent in Jeddah where I joined sports groups, volunteer groups, movie groups, dance groups, etc...  I'd love to be able to move out there and get involved in some enriching stuff.  If anyone has any advice please feel free to private message me.
Thanks!
