Hi, I am told by the shipping firm in the uk that I need a customs agent in Dar, is that true and does anyone have reliable ones please

Boss LadyT

I think they mean you need a local shipping agent.  I can give you my current agent that I am using to ship my things from the US through a US global mover.  They are local in Dar - I am working with a gentleman named Damas.

Hi Vallentinemakaranga,

I'd appreciate some advice on getting goods through customs.

I have read the government guidelines on what goods are acceptable and the basic requirements but I'd like to know more about the actual process in terms of dealing with the customs agent who check your goods, review your receipts/invoices for your good and date of purchase and decided on how much to charge.

The standard rate is 20-25%+vat of the value they deem suitable but do you have any advice on how best to manage this and reduce the cost?
