Any advice on requirements on moving with a dog and a cat? I have air reservations but need info on vaccine requirements and such.
Thanks.
Sam
Moving from the Ivory Coast to Recife for work. Getting the work visa was a marathon but it finally came together. We have a dog and a cat whom are also moving with us to what we hope to be a fantastic location.
We have lived all over as international teachers and this will probably be the last stop for a few years.
See you all soon.
Sam
Hi Sam,
We flew from US with our dog in January 2021. First make sure the airline transports pets. You can look up all the requirements online for vaccinations. Make sure you do it soon because it is a process and it takes a while. You have to do a specific parasite treatment before the vet can do the physical and paperwork.
Also try to find a vet who is familiar with the process. We were fortunate to find a vet who had gone through the process with 2 other dogs going to Brazil a few months before us so he knew exactly what to do and the timeline. We also experimented with anti anxiety meds in the months before our trip because our dog is very anxious. The flight went well with the dog and the airline staff was great. We flew Latham because Azul is not flying dogs.
We will be living in Campinas for five years and bringing the dog has been awesome.
Good luck!

Hi I'm Deborah from Toronto, Canada and am hoping to move to Curitiba. I teach English to Brazilians and have made some friends there over the years. Curitiba seems to have the weather that suits me best and is a nice city. I am in the process of buying an apartment to get an investor visa. I hope to learn from everyone in this forum about both Curitiba and about southern Brazil, where I will spend most of my time.
Welcome moosehead,
We had a second home in Curitiba. It is the Parana state capital. It has a large banking presence as well as auto manufacturing. (Some companies have close and some have a reduction in force).
Like many larger cities in the world is has great areas and some less pleasing.
Great shopping and private medical facilities. (Need private insurance here). Many different cultural sites and very good infrastructure (for Brazil)
The weather for me got too cold and we do not go back often.
Good luck and any questions, let us know.
Dear TexanBrazil,
Thank you for your reply. I doubt that Curitiba could be colder than Toronto:-) I chose this city because it has winter weather in the 40s and 50s so the weather difference won't be so drastic for me as it would be in other cities like Sao Paulo. Not having heating in the apartment will be strange, but better for the environment so I actually like that part. I will still have a home in Toronto and it will be my second home with Curitiba as the primary home.
It does not get Candian Moose hunting weather, for sure!
What was different (weird) for me is the condo we have does not allow A/C or heaters attached. Now I had a couple of 110v heaters but really suffered on the 10 to 20 days when temp does get warm so just fans are needed.
It is great to be just a few hour's drive to Florianopolis S.C. beaches.
You are in a higher elevation causing the cooler weather.
The airport is a major hub, connecting to many cities.
Batel has higher-end malls and great shops along with little urban areas.
We have relatives in Curitiba and do visit.
Also has a Federal University and real car dealerships with more than 5 cars in stock.
Oh that's so funny 'real car dealerships with more than 5 cars in stock' - LOL. Thanks for all that information. I will be very careful with choosing an apartment regarding the a/c units. Also, I know that recently Curitiba had a water shortage so I want a green building that sports a water tank.
The worst drought in 30 yrs Curitiba is the headwaters for the magnificent Foz do Iguacu here,
We put in 2 tanks in our house here.
Hello moosehead and welcome to Brazil. I am from the London just down the road.
I m in Rio grande do Sul. It gets very cold here. Now that 9 C is very cold to me. When building your house just emphasize insulation and well sealed windows and doors. It’s not a detail that is done well here. But you know how important it is in winter and summer.
Normally I am in Canada for our summer but have not returned due to covid hotel situation.
Best wishes.

Hi, I want to get a job in Brazil, and planning in seek when I get there, do you think I can find there? Or do you have any suggestion?
Divine,
Uncertain as to job markets in an unknown area. You can not come on a tourist visa and work.
First, you would need to have a permanent resident visa or a company sponsor.
Once you obtain such, you need to apply for a work permit.
Begin with the BR Consulate in your region for visa information. You will need to have family in Brazil or an investor visa.
How can I can I get a Permanent Visa? What are the requirements? Is it expensive? Is it applicable in any places in Brazil, whatever place I want to stay?
Thank you.
Begin with the BR Consulate in your region for visa information. You will need to have family in Brazil or an investor visa.
I don't have family there, only a boyfriend
Can I ask what do you mean by the investor visa?
Anyways, thank you for the response. I am grateful
To be eligible for an investor visa a foreigner must invest R$500,000 in either an already existing Brazilian company or in a new Brazilian company. It is possible to get the visa with amounts less than this but there is more subjectivity involved in the decision. The CNI (Conselho Nacional de Imigração or National Immigration Counsel in English) is the body which is responsible for making such a decision.
The CNI, which is part of the Labour Ministry, evaluates a few factors when deciding whether or not to grant the visa. Factors such as how many jobs the investment will create (based on the company’s business plan), where the company is located in the country, which sectors of the economy the company will be operating in and how exactly the company will be benefitting this sector, and if there will be a transfer of technology and/or resources which benefits the country in general.
Oww, I got it. Thanks. Your information is a big help.
I will ask first BR Consulate base on your advice.
Thank you so much Sir.
Divine,
The only option is to have your boyfriend go to the cartorio and get a marriage checklist to be married in Brazil.
Then go to the PF office to get the checklist for a CRNM.
There will be many documents that require translation as well as legalization/apostille.
The BR Consulate website will also have information.
Once you have all documents, plus the Police background check, you could enter on a tourist visa to marry then process the CRNM.
Try to have everything done before entering. It is difficult to obtain missing documents from your home country while in Brazil.
Would an investment in the iShares MSCI Brazil (ETF) count towards the $500,000?
And what about an investment in Vale SA purchased on the NYSE?
Or PBR, also on the NYSE?
I had not considered this route but I think Im on the way there already ......
You must be able to invest at least R$500,000 in an already existing Brazilian business, or a new company.
I do not believe an ETF will qualify.
Yes, I will try to comply all and tell to him about to this matter.
Thanks for the information and for your quick response.
Have a good day and Keep safe.
God Bless

Hi everyone!
I live in new-caledonia. I am looking for a job in Brazil in logistics, supply chain or business development related to new technologies.
cheers,
Raphaël
Welcome, Raph,
What type of visa will you be entering Brazil?
Only foreigners with permanent resident's visas, investor visas, or having a Brasil company sponsor will be able to work in Brasil.
If you have family in Brazil you may apply for a family reunion permanent visa.
Thank you Texanbrazil,
Now, i didn't know what kind of visa i'll use for entering in Brazil!
I would like to find a job firt. there is another type of visa for French people called "PVT".
Raph,
It does not work that way in Brasil. In order to work, you must have a permanent visa, then get a work card.
To get a permanent visa you must have family in Brasil, or apply for an investor visa, with $500.00,00 Reis to invest in an established business. or meet the guidelines of a retirement visa

Welcome, Talita!
Barrie. Just arrived from the UK in May. Living in São Paulo and working as a teacher in an international school. Also have ties to Fortaleza through my wife and her family. Happy to make new contacts and friends in either areas. My Portuguese is still very poor so would like opportunities to improve.
Hello Barrie. Hope everything works out well for you in Sao Paulo. I'm Mike from Ipitanga Beach in Lauro de Freitas, not far from Salvador in the North East. I've been here since 2003 and had regular work until recently as a Quality Consultant/Manager. I'm from Manchester originally and my wife is a lawyer and is Brazillian. Good luck for the future. Cheers.
