Hi, about how much are legal fees for assistance with a resident visa? Doing the family reunification visa. Thank you.

planner

So first this is the introduction forum, we try to keep everything else out.
And as each situation is different you need to discuss pricing directly with the lawyers!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Stephane, I am a research and communications specialist currently living in Poland. I am looking to move with my family (my wife and my two children, 5 and 10) to the Dominican Republic in the course of the next few months. The motivation comes from my current research work about Haiti which is requiring me to move closer to the country. I have some experience in the DR (since I work and have lived intermittently in Haiti since 2004) but would like to get some advice in regards to good living locations in Santo Domingo and International schooling for my children.

Since most of my research work is not currently fully funded i would also need to find work preferably in areas such as graphic design, translation and private language teaching for which I am highly proficient.

Any information and advice are very welcome.

Regards to all.

Hello to all! And starting off by saying what a wonderful way to connect and get so much info!
My name is Claribel. I’m actually Dominican, born in a Santiago. However, was raised and have lived here in NY for more than 40 years. My husband, Andy and I and our 2 kids travel quite often to DR. We have a beautiful big house  in Bonao. I found this forum while looking for info on how to open a post surgical Recovery House  in DR.
I’m just impressed with all the different topics and how resourceful this is! Looking to keep in touch and learn more and if they ever have a get together - would love to form part of it!!

Hello all! I’m Ashley! Me and my family are moving to the Bavaro area in September! We are planning to rent for a while and then build a home. We are currently selling our home in New Orleans and can’t wait to live in the DR! We have two kids and are excited about all the things to see and do. We’ve actually never even been to DR and just moving there on a whim!

Greg & Suzie here...we are in the process of relocating to the DR's north shore, where we intend to enjoy our retirement!  Retired Marine Waiting to close on our house sale here in Florida and working through the immigration process to the DR.  Household goods being packed up the end of July, and then into storage while we await residency.  Been to the DR several times, and served with the DR task force in Iraq 2003-4.  We have a number of local friends in the DR, and hope to meet our fellow expats one of these days!  Hoping to make a couple of more trips over the next 2-3 months, with the final move by the end of the year.

Hi All,

My wife and I have been vacationing in Punta Cana for the past 7 years. We decided to buy a lot in Cap Cana and have started the residency process. Looking to start building a home in the next 6 months to use it as a vacation home for now and eventually our retirement home.

We have 4 kids who love vacationing here too and plan to move to the DR full time in the next 15-20 years.

We love meeting people outside the “touristy” areas and the culture.

We are also thankful to everyone who takes the time to post in this forum as there is a wealth of information here.

ddmcghee

Welcome Stephen!

We’re in the midst of building here in Las Terrenas! It’s a whole different ballgame than what we are used to in the US! Let me know if we can answer any questions!

phannigan75

Welcome, yes this is how everyone starts out the vacation here for a few years then they move here for a year renting and then they start either building or buying a place. It's a beautiful country with amazing people. And you're right moving away from the tourist areas we'll make your life a thousand percent better. The little villages in towns are truly amazing. And the people will do anything they can to help you out.

Hello everyone,

We are Tony and Lisa from the UK and USA.  This is our second visit to the DR during the last year.  We are staying in a rental home in New Cambium which is located in La Yagua….near Gaspar Hernández in the north of DR.   We have lived outside of our countries for the past 35 years while working and traveling in South America, Mexico, India, Turkey, Azerbaijan…..We are now considering building/purchasing  a home here in the DR.
We would love to meet up with people living /visiting in this area or along the north coast.
