Hello I am a 41 year old Zimbabwean interested in relocating to the Dominican Republic. I am based in Zimbabwe, Africa, and my wife is based in China. I have been working in Human Resources for over 17 years and have recently completed an International MBA with the International Graduate School in Germany.

Welcome to the forums.  Please read the thread on residency.  That is where you start if you are looking to relocate.

Hello everyone,
My name is Marcel, I'm from Slovakia, but the last few years I've lived mostly in Spain, as my wife is Spanish. We travel a lot and he have lived in Spain, Australia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Peru and other countries. In 2016-2017 we spent almost a year in Las Terrenas, we loved it,  and now we are coming back for good :-)
As we had already lived in Las Terrenas, we know what to expect from a daily life in DomRep, but I'm joining this forum to learn form experience of others with the "new topics" that will come - getting residency, car purchase, and other "long-term stay" topics.

Welcome to the forums!

I'm in Las Terrenas as well - moved here in July 2020.

Mariel Gonzalez

Hello!
My name is Mariel
I currently live in GA, USA
I am currently building a home in Bavaro Punta Cana, and I am very excited! The construction should be over Dec 2022, but I am very interested in networking and finding a remote job. I currently invest in real estate and planning on keep doing so while down there. I am not rich by any means and I am currently pregnant, married and 27 years old. I have dreamt of moving to PC my whole life and now that I’m about to start a family feels like the perfect time. Can someone help me find a remote job or guide me in the right direction? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

PS; decided to build as a form of investment, figured it’d be a safe bet with the current growth in PC.

Thanks for the advice
One love❤️❤️✌🏽

Hi Mariel - welcome to the forum!

Finding remote work will be much easier to do from the US! There are a lot of companies that now allow remote work, but you’ll need to ensure that you can work outside the country. You also need to understand the tax implications and requirements for residency here.

I suggest reading over all the pinned posts, particularly those on residency, and then search through the other posts for answers to your questions. If you have additional questions, you can start a new thread. With the group of expats we have on here, someone will likely have an answer to anything you need!

Hello:
My Wife and I have no plans of “moving” to the DR, but. . .   we have spent 3 to 5 months, every Winter, for the last 10 years here in Sosua.  As retired Canadians, we are attached to our free medical care.  So,  we just rent here.
