Hi all, once the covid situation is under control I like many others would like to visit BG with a view of a permanent move. My situation would be as a retired person looking for a a comfortable property on a smart complex somewhere around Varna, Balhick, Albena and possibly Burgas.
Any info and views on this topic would be most welcome. Take care all.

Hey there Frankieboy(123).

I moved to Varna a few years ago, and purchased an apartment in Varna city centre…

I really think I landed on my feet, more by luck than close analysis of the country itself, but a major item that was important to me was the ability to busy myself.

For this I needed DIY stores in close proximity, along with major supermarkets and other retail outlets, and I found all this by living on the outskirts of Varna city.

Varna is built around being a major holiday resort, and as such everyone is mostly helpful and accommodating to foreigners. (Me).

The choice you may make seems to decide if you need a car, or rely on city transport.. It’s brilliant to have a car, but Varna is re-organising road transport, and much as I love having a car, it’s going to have to go this year. It's just so difficult parking.

If I had to pick one thing I regret, it would be getting an apartment that was small. But having said that, I have a small place, but still fail to find things....   :o

Good luck, and best wishes.

If you want to live in Bulgaria permanently you will probably need an D Visa to do so, also you must check if it is possible to receive your pension on a Bulgarian account.

Hi,thanks for the reply. I agree with you about having things to do.although retired I still like to keep busy. I would most probably want a car for getting about ,sightseeing etc.,
Have seen lots of nice places on the net but I know you can't beat seeing the property's first hand.
Would probably rent first to see if I like it there. Would like to find something close to the beach.
For now all I can do is research. Hope all is well with you and once again, thank you.

Thanks for replying,as for pensions,I would most likely keep in uk account if possible for a while.
All the best.

Hello, it will be important for you to research the law regarding getting a driving license in BG. It appears that you are from the EU. If that is the case it is much easier. I would to be informed of your progress and situations you encountered, as we have been discussing relocating to Varna or Burgas. The relocation, like you, will only occur after COVID is well under control and the vaccine has been disseminated.

The UK is out of the EU, so now other rules do apply

Hi Frankieboy123,  I moved from Sunny South Africa to Varna 16yrs ago.   I really think Varna is one of the nicest cities, especially if you're looking for a coastal property.  Burgas is a smaller.perhaps neater version of Varna.  Balchik and Albena feel too 'small villagey' places if you get my drift. Fab for a long weekend or break but not to live.  Good luck on your move!
If I can help /answer any queries... Don't hesitate to ask.
Kind regards,
Luna
