Hello everyone. I am Vietnamese and I have just got an offer for customer service position in Malaysia. Problem is that I'm HIV positive. I have known this for 3 years and using ARV medicine since this year. Because using that medicine, now my health is good and my HIV can't infect community. But if  i don't  take medicine daily, it will become worse. Because i will have to bring at least 6 to 12 botte of medicine for 1 year working. I want to ask that if pharmacy inspection in baggage on arrival in Malaysia is strict?  If I live in Kuala Lumpur, where can I buy medicine for HIV patients?
Thanks for reading my topic and i hope that i will get feedback from forum's members.

Hi there,

Don’t have to worry. You can get from any clinic in Malaysia. And once you have doctor prescription from local doctor, you should be able to get from pharmacy directly.

Thank for your feedback.
As i know, After arrive in Malaysia, I have to have quarantine for 14 days in a hotel. So at that period, i can't go out to buy medicine. That's the reason why I must bring at least 4-6 bottle of medicine ( 120-180 pills) . I don't know if I might have any trouble while entering this country and carrying those pills in my luggage ? I have ever read somewhere that unskilled or partly-skilled workers can be deported if found to be infected with HIV. In the contract, I am noted as an advisor-customer service so i don't know if i am a skill worker or not.

I dont know the firm answer but unless you can delay the job a while, make sure that you have a letter from your doctor to show that you have a medical condition requiring the pills and what the pills are. Also, though it might not necessarily be valid here, have a new prescription for the medicine that you can show to Immigration-Customs AND your new doctor after you get here. It might be useless but try anyway. Have documentation for the medicine to avoid confiscation or detainment.

Right now, because of hyper-sensitivity to communicable disease (covid), any rules about incoming workers will be amplified and thats not good news for you. Because of covid, if nothing else, its impossible to say with certainty what position the government will take with you.

I wish there are more people to help answer you based on their recent experience. I think even if I contacted Immigration for you that I wont get a good or helpful answer. On the other hand, since the main focus IS covid, maybe thats what they mainly care about and other things are minor. Personally, I have never heard of anyone being denied entry or deported due to HIV. Have you explored the Immigration website for answers?
