Hi all, we are looking to emigrate to Mauritius but first want to go there on a tourist visa, available on arrival. Our question is, (we know about the Premium Travel Visa) whilst we are in Mauritius on the tourist visa, can we apply for this Premium Visa or do we have to leave and come back to south africa to make the application? Thank you all for feedback/input, Glen

Hello Glen, welcome to Expat.Com

Yes you can apply for a premium visa during your stay as a tourist without having to leave the island...

Just make sure you have all the documents/proofs required at hand.

Thanks Anoushka, just what we needed to know  :D

Hi again Anoushka, we would like to rent somewhere when we first arrive as a tourist, are we restricted to certain areas that are for local Mauritians only or can we rent wherever we want. thanks, Glen

Anou86

Hi Glen,

You can rent anywhere you want on the island  :) There are no restrictions.

Restrictions apply only when/if you buy property.

Any question, feel free to ask.

Thank you so much, Glen ;)

I'm back again. With regards to the Premium Visa whereby you have to have access to USD$ 1500 per month to cover expenses, is this for each person or a couple? My partner and I are not married but as common law husband and wife. Thanks, Glen

Hi Glen.  I am also in the process of relocating to the island.  Navin ( an agent on the island)  has been a fantastic help with all my questions on permits.  Not sure if I am allowed to recommend him on this site - he contacted me via this page as well.  Natasha

Hi Natasha, thank you for your message, I wish you well on your relocation, it's really exciting isn't it, can't wait to start a new life in Mauritius  :)

Proof of funds to meet the cost of stay in Mauritius (minimum amount of USD 1500/EUR 1300 per month for each applicant and minimum amount of USD 500/EUR 400 per month for each dependent below 24 years old)

It is on thiswebsite:

It is $1500 per person (except for dependents under 24 years old = $500).

As for common law partnership, you will probably need a certificate or some kind of official document to attest it.

EDB is quite responsive, feel free to contact them for official infos (hpd@edbmauritius.org)

Hope it helped  :)
