UK couple looking to extend 90 day stay

We as a UK couple would like to rent an property in Paphos area on a yearly basis but would only want to stay for 5 months in the summer. Can you get your 90 day visa extended as have heard Spain are thinking of doing that.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Can’t say for sure but I think I read some where that a long stay annual visa can be obtained and a fee of €300 per person is payable

NOTE There are currently pressure groups trying to get EUropean countries to allow British citizens to stay up to 180 days rather than the restrictive 90 days in 180 days Schengen rules..which right now impacts on those brits who have invested heavily in holiday homes here, Although Cyprus isnt currently part of the Schengen Zone but its in the mid to late stages for them to be so.

So I would suggest you keep your eyes on the news in this regard.
