Returning to PI status

Post new topic

Hi All
I left Quezon City one year ago. I got my ECC at the Main office of the BI. I didn't get a reentery certificate because I wasn't sure about returning. Now i'm very sure about staying retired in Boracay!! Since my ACR card has expired and no re-entry permit will I be starting over as a tourist with 30 day visa? It looks like June may find the PI open again.

Hello Lasvegan.

How would you compare the Philippines with Costa Rica?
I think spanish is easier to speak than Tagalog or Bisaya.

Spanish easier for sure. I never considered learning Tagalog. Too old.. lol. Costa Rica is not half as nice as 10 years ago.

I agree with that, haha My girl still talks to (and yells at) the kids in Cebuano and I hate it. Time to get back to a Spanish-speaking country. That leaves Costa Rica and Spain as good permanent options to live. Maybe South America. I sure love Thailand but the language thing really is a problem.

Hi stillbiker, I have never been to Costa Rica (on the bucket list) and agree that Spanish is easier to learn from what I have gleaned over the years but the beauty of the Philippines is the larger majority speak English, a winner for this lazy so and so. My better half is Ilicano and Tagalog fluent, 90% Bicolano, 90% English, 50% Spanish and so on. His advice to me is generally in day to day living the 100+ odd dialects in this country have Spanish influences from 350 odd years of occupation and most can readily communicate unless you go into some of the mountain provinces. Me? English, some French and a smattering of Tagalog and even less Spanish. I watch the local news and get the drift because it is Taglish, all of the above.
For me having a Filipino partner has been a winner at the communication level, it's everything else here that is 20 to 40 years behind the western norms.

Sorry to wander off topic.

Cheers, Steve.

Dominican Republic is a great choice. White sand beaches and English and Spanish spoken everywhere. Great weather and plenty of good shopping and living options! Very diverse culture as so many expats from every corner of the globe! Friendly locals!
