What struck you about Denmark?

Hello everybody,

When you first settled in Denmark, you might have been struck by cultural aspects of life in Denmark and you might even have anecdotes about your integration here.
We would like you to share with expats-to-be what you discovered once you arrived in Denmark: customs, traditions, interesting or fun facts etc.

What were the things that surprised you the most after your arrival?

Are there any practices that are particularly out of step with your culture of origin? If so, what are they?

What do you think about them?

Did you get used to these and adopt some of these traditions or norms?

Do you think you would take some of the customs of Denmark with you if you were to return to your home country or move to another country?

Thank you!

One of the first things that surprised me when I started to come to Denmark, it's that you need to take your shoes off when you enter a house.
In France, we usually always keep our shoes inside. But here in Denmark, you can often see outside the front door, the shoes of the person visiting (when living in an apartment).
It's a habit that i now enjoy and will take with me if one day i leave Denmark.

My first impressions were how empty the roads were with hardly any traffic. However, that which really blew me away was the number of men urinating in the streets! The drinking problem in this country was much worse in those days plus it was normal to drink at your place of work, and I used to think that the English could drink!  :o
