PET DOG ADVICE FOR RELOCATION FROM UK

Good evening,

I wondered if I might ask advice from those who are currently living or have lived in Mauritius with their dog. We are due to be relocating there later this year but are becoming concerned about flying our Ridgeback over.

He is only 2 so youthful but has already been in South Africa and Kenya with us and has lived in the UK with us for the last 7 months so two major flights already. The flight does not worry me so much though.

What is life like on the island for dogs? Will he have plenty of space to walk and run? He is generally always exercised on a lead but we run him or walk him between 6 and 10km every day. He's a large breed so needs plenty of exercise! I have read reports that dogs have limited areas to exercise due to bans on main pathways on the hiking trails or that poison is often dropped on the paths near the sugar cane fields? Our chosen home would have to be securely fenced, we appreciate that.

Current thoughts for house location would possibly be Tamarin/Black River area, mainly given that we are an active family and there seems to be more exploration and hiking nearby - perhaps the area would have the most bearing on our ability to be more free to exercise him?

We absolutely want to do the right thing by him so all feedback gratefully received! He has already been neutered and is full pedigree so should be permitted entry.

Huge thanks!

@lucklm hello. Please update us about the outcome. We live in the UK and have a small dog who will be 8 years old and we are thinking of relocating to the UK. Airpets is highly recommended. But it would be good to hear what you think, and how you did it. Thanks
