Safety in Russia

EuropeWord

As stated in a post on this Russia topic, I realised that it is not such a safe country for foreigners. I visited Moscova and I didn't really feel comfortable walking on the streets at night.
What do you think? Is there someone sharing the same thoughts? What piece of advice would you offer?

I think it depends on where you are at in Russia.  Moscow is a very large city just like Los Angeles and I would not walk the streets of LA late at night either.

My husband and I take late night walks here in Krasnodar and it is very pleasant... and so are the people we meet along the way!

I am, as Russian, who lived in Moscow for 10 years, can say that safety depends of the neighborhood you are walking or living in Moscow. Most of the central streets are quite safe, which I cannot say about some side-streets and courtyards. Some suburban areas especially ones where live working, not rich people are not safe, even daily.
Being in Costa Rica now, in San Jose I would say here is much more contrast and some neighborhoods are even more dangerous, but locals seemed more friendly in common.

I think in the downtown it is very safety, but I not sugest suburb, esspecially in the night.
