Electricity bill

Post new topic

All you people living in med or sm houses who use their ac in the day and as needed at night what kind of electricity bill do you pay every month? I just got my first bill and I want to compare. I live in Puerto Plata.

LT American

I have a studio in las terranas. I turn on the AC for about 2 hours before I go to bed. With a ceiling fan on low, I am very comfortable all night. I like a cool room.  Last bill was 875 peso

This is very difficult to answer.  I will try to give you a ball park of what I think you should expect, not knowing the price per kilowatt in your area.  Based upon 14RD per kilowatt and a 1200 square foot home, using AC in 3 bedrooms at 24 C all night  and a little through the day, I would take an educated guess that your bill could be 10-12000 pesos per month.

But this is really a shot in the dark!

Perhaps you could provide some more details.

I have had smaller or medium size houses or apartments a long time. I use my air every night for  6 to 8 hours and my bill is normally between  2,000 and 3,000 RD a month. It fluctuates based on time of year and  how hot it is. But also  will depend on other electrical items and how efficient your air conditioner is.

and how much you pay per kilowatt.  What is SD now?  7 pesos?

Well my first bill was 17000 but to be fair I was running multiple ac units day and night at the beginning. Next bill should probobley be more realistic.

DominicanadaMike

Not that surprising.  Electricity is expensive, construction is not sealed like North America so Air conditioners have a tough time doing their job.  But if you want to keep running the way you are, solar sounds like something for you to consider based on your building circumstances etc.

My electricity is free now... :D

In SD we are either edeeste or edesur so same pricing as most of the country.

If you are running multiple air units day and night then it's expensive.

We only run ours in one bedroom at night, for 8-12 hours depending on how in sync our sleep times are! We will occasionally run it for 15-20 minutes during the day when it's just way too humid. Our ceiling fans are on all day, we wash about 4-6 loads of laundry a week (no dryer), and we have laptops, phone chargers, numerous wifi routers, and other gadgets running. The highest our bill has been is about 6000.

When our house is completed later this year, we're hoping to use our AC even less. We'll be at about 120 meters of elevation with a pretty strong breeze coming in from the north. We will have an AC in the living room, but we hope its use is pretty limited. We'll be using solar with batteries as our primary source, so our electric bill should be really low,

Hola!  I have a 2 floor penthouse in las Terrenas, Punta Popy, facing the ocean ( 3 & 4th floors ).  Due to the constant breeze that flows through the living area and ceiling fans I have never turned on the ac.  Many nights while sitting on the front terrace I must put on a sweater.  When I am there the cost is about 800 rds / mth.  When back to 🇨🇦 About 375 rds.  We have natural gas which is included in the monthly condo fee.  Thank you Mother Nature!!

Remember in Las terrenas you are on a private electrical supplier. Your rates are more expensive but you have fewer outages.  Correct?

If we have fewer outages, I really feel for you! We have a 5 hour planned outage tomorrow. At our villa, we experience at least one outage every day - sometimes just a few minutes, something an hour or more. The last few days, there have been a lot of fluctuations in the power - to the point of seeing lights dim.

Here's it 14.95 per kwh

Wow things are not what they used to be there.  So yes, you are on private supplier.

With  the EDE's supply depends on the grid you are on.  "A" grid  has planned outages for maintenance and then we go down if something happens.  "B"grids  have regularly scheduled outages maybe 3 to 4 hours.  C grid is worse and D is ridiculous.  That is on top of maintenance and breakdown issues.

Our billing is a stepped up formula starting very low and increasing the more kWh you use in a month!

All the EDE's have the same billing rates!  I will find my rate list and post it .

Luz y Fuerza de la Terrenas.  Overall, outages are minimal
