Hello,

I was thinking the same was as you to bring my car my from US.  It my understanding that it very cumbersome to and not cost effective to bring a car from another country.  You might be better off buying the car in Turkey.  By the way, which state do you currently live and which city in Turkey are you moving to?

My advice is do not bring a car as the taxes can be extremely high and it is not worth it bc the customs agent can say oh your car is worth 25k in the US well here it is worth 75k so you must pay taxes on that amount. Contact a dealership right away to order a car unless you Buy a used car which is almost as expensive as new cars. You can look on sahibinden.com for used and pretty much new cars. Just know they don't keep inventory like the US so you might have to wait a few weeks to get a new car from the dealership. We bought used (0km) and new cars. The new car took a while and they don't have package options like the US does usually you will have to go aftermarket for things like entertainment system etc.
The used 0km car didn't take any time as it was available and that is why the yard market is so pricey bc it is the convenience of availability.
It is an all day process to buy a car as you must go to the notary/tax office and print plates and transfer money etc.
That is my advice to you. Nothing is easy especially when you are translating constantly but do not bother with customs and I would say the same with shipping a container, as we did and they charged so much on fees and damaged a lot of our things. Definitely pay for extra baggage when coming and bring what you can on the flight and maybe do the cheapest partial container load of you must bring something. Sell all your furniture and look online. They have many amazing options to choose from but be aware that also takes time as they make it to order so expect 6-8 weeks for furniture orders. Start researching now!
We moved to Antalya at the end of January for permanent relocation as well.
