EP Application from outside of Singapore

Hi all,

I have a job offer from an AI startup in Singapore. The company just today submitted my EP application, and I asked them for a tracking number, which I can use to track the status of my application? However, the company said there is no tracking number for the EP application, and only when the application is approved from MoM, the IPA will be generated.

But from what I have seen across different forums here, people tend to post the complete timeline of the application, starting from the filing date, to application status(Pending).., and final update. How is that possible?

Shekhz

Your application can be tracked via EPOnline, after a day or two of submission. Enter your passport details and you are good to go.

Thanks much for replying. Is the link that you are referring to https://www.mom.gov.sg/eservices/services/ep-online

But I don't see any link on that webpage to access the application via passport number?

Shekhz

https://eponline.mom.gov.sg/epol/PEPOLE … tAction.do

Passport/ Travel document.

Thanks, Shekhz. That helps much  :)

Hi, just wondering if MOM is actually accepting EP applications from candidates overseas at this point? I thought they stopped allowing external applications since the restrictions started in May?

Shekhz

Depends where about us you coming from/ your country of origin- there are recent cases where approvals for applicants (not currently in SG) have been sought. However, to fly in, you also need safe entry approvals from ICA.

My company applied for my EP on 21st July, and MoM reached out to them saying that they need additional verified documents of my MSc degree. My MSc degree is from a top-tier university (top 50), however, my degree name on the MoM portal was in German. However, when my employer filled the application form, he wrote down the English name of the university which of course did not appear in the list of accredited universities on the MoM portal.  My employer wrote back to MoM today that the 2 universities are indeed the same, and maybe the document verification is not needed.

Do you think MoM should have a positive response to it since it is not really a big deal (the universities has two names (one in English, one in german))?

Shekhz

Yes, if that’s a fact and has digital evidence- should be taken into consideration. You may be asked to submit a letter from the University to confirm the same. I had a similar experience- worked, had to get a letter across as evidence.

GuestPoster87

Thanks Shekhz, that makes sense. Both the names (German & English) are written on my degree certificate, but I think bc the English name was written in the EP form, the portal flagged it as a non-accredited university. I Hope MoM looks into it deeply and finds that out they are indeed the same uni.

Shekhz

If it is called out on the degree itself, submit the copy again with a justification- that’s all. Should work- u don’t need a letter.

GuestPoster87

Yeah, Shekhz. My employer said he will talk to MoM, so I hope that it works!

Hello Vj1011,

I am also looking for new IPA as well but i am in India.

Please suggest can i get new approval easily or not.

Hi Sumit,

Since I am not sure what your profile or job designation looks like, I am not in a position to comment on anything. It would be nicer if you share complete information about your application & qualifications.

Vinit.

Hi vj1011,

Just out of curiosity, I have seen on this forum, much more experienced people for lesser salaries than yours been told 'Salary not commensurate'. There were no questions from on the salary in your case?

GuestPoster87

Nope, no questions asked. Altho I only have 1.5  years of work experience, I have an MSc in CS (Machine Learning) from a top-tier institute, and have a couple of international internships. I think it usually depends on the type of role, but most importantly, if your employer is on good terms with MoM, things are much easier. Anyway, I wish you good luck and fingers crossed for you!

Hello Vj1011,

Thanks for update.

last year June 2020 i got job in singapore and i have valid IPA as well till nov 2020 but due to Mom entry approval my IPA is expired now my org is looking for New IPA application approval.i am Network security domain.so i have chance to get new Ipa because i already got the approval for old IPA.thanks for your help.

GuestPoster87

If you received the IPA previously, why didn't you receive the entry approval? As far as I remember, most countries banned flights from India only during the 2nd wave, but not during the Nov 2020 period.

Sumitjohari

firstly we were waiting for situation and we dont have idea entry approval was not easy for indian.we have applied the entry approval last year oct 20 but as per Mom they require 21 days buffer for approval.due to lack of inofrmation we are loose our IPA.now dec 20 we are looking for new IPA.

Machine Learning/ Artificial Intelligence is a niche area, the government is keen to attract talent in the field to contribute to the overall growth and contribution to the domain/ economy. So it is a sought after skill/ expertise- you am sure would have been welcomed with arms wide open.

You are most welcome, glad I could help.

SuperMan123

I guess your specific skill set must be rare to find. Congrats dude!

I know people with PhDs (from uni in top 15 in the world) in ML/AI with a few years experience working for much less pay in SG, hence the question.

My 25 cents, PhDs and all sorts of degrees are great to have, end of the day, personality traits, how one sells himself/ herself to the employer, amongst a few other things (if you get what I am pointing towards), are equally important when it comes to firming up salaries.

As a hiring manager, I need a smart ML expert who can manage a client, take up responsibilities and be a leader in innovation, not just a degree- it won’t fetch me ROI :)

SuperMan123

While I agree with your argument, I would like to clarify something.
As per my knowledge, ML/AI expertise or innovation is more into developing highly technical & mathematical models, rather than managing clients.
Of course I would agree if it was a consultant role, where client management is the top priority and the job role is not so technical. In this case I guess even a MS in not necessary (might be good to have only) and personal traits matter.

Shekhz

My team has ML experts, who pretty much lead client discussions on their own, hence the statement (not hear/ say). Yup, other credentials and traits play a critical role.
