Only an opinion but I took "try before you buy" as dating, getting to know the person et.

I bet many men DONT count it as tried if it dont include sex  :)

As for traditional good province women? I see plenty of young single mums with 1,2 or 3 children living in the provinces as well as cities.  Note single and how many of them are married? We have 3 nieces here that have children and none are married, 2 of them the fathers disappeared, the other has a reasonable guy standing with her and raising their child,,,,, but not married. The provincial man obviously contributed to "try before you buy".

Well. Some of the good women arent so clever   :)
Many get FOOLED by the man they will marry, but they dont.
And some marry but the man disapear.

Try before you buy The only caveat here is if the buyer never intended to buy, but  only try (Free Sample) until till he found somebody more interesting.

Exactly...

Is not offensive, unmarried couples living together around the world is not unusual.

Yes. Sometimes depending of they dont afford.

Enzyte Bob wrote:

The problem here is the Church.

Yes.

Church screw up both logic thinking, keep people poor and tell poor people to obey the power.  I havent found any Filipino, who have been tought JESUS PROTESTED against the priest (as 14yo).

Enzyte Bob wrote:

Secondly the Church forbids birth control.

Well.  Church fought hard up to highest court to try to stop condoms.
but church allow "safe periods" which arent safe, heaöth care teach its safe anyway!!!
Sex education in school seem to be ZERO!
I suppouse these contribute to many unplanned kids.

Thirdly it is sociably acceptable in the Philippines without buyers remorse to leave as an option.

What do you mean by that?
If you mean what I believe you mean (=ok for men to leave) then abandonded single mothers dont agree :)   I know several singöe mothers, who are angry...   Actualy one of them wrote to me at FB exct now   :)

But you are kind of  correct too  :)    Laws are kind of protecting men who cheat and made other womnen pregnant and dont bother to pay support!!!   By if the - sometimes dont nowing he was married - women try to force legaly the man to pay support then the WOMAN risk to be punnished because of te "loose face" law!!!   = It can be a crime to tell bad things even when its true by in Phils its seen as a serious crime to make someone loose face!!!

Fortunately I am one of those men that try before I buy or commit.
Would you coach53 but a new car without test driving? Touching the leather, feeling the power, comfort, running and maintenance costs? A Bed without laying on it? A property without without walking over it and due diligence? A soda served in a plastic bag?
Your situation,  a prospective business Oh, that looks good let's commit,,,,,,, no, we all know your research implemented to cover your derriere so you don't get burnt. Moirals and ethics? No, potential profit and the longevity of a commitment.

The prudish view would be buy the car because it looks good but reality strikes when you get it home and learn that the spanners don't fit the bolts and the car likes to be worked on in the dark and if you turn the light on I won't run. Whatever and I'm sure you get the drift.

An or a very important part of any relationship is sex, it matters little the country or sexual preference or social status, it works or it don't.  If there is no spark it becomes mechanical and if there is a spark it works, both before you buy and in the following years.
Marriage? These days? Why? Old school thoughts.

I will add, you said "well some women are not so clever". I only hope you meant all countries. Many men are even more stupid and for lack of research and not trying before they purchased lost the shirts off their backs,,,,,,, all countries.

Yet again. "Yes, sometimes depending of they don't afford"
Some people are not sheep and social norms change and churches have a hard time keeping up, all, right or wrong chose to put their hard learnt pesos or dollars into their relationship, home and prosperity of the children they will bring into the world,,,,,,, thinking people that see through the perpetuated lies, country matters little.

Women can say no! Men can say no!

We are well off topic and I am a perpetrator like a few others and apologies to the OP that simply introduced himself.

No prizes for seconds.

OMO.

Cheers, Steve.

In the matter of hospitalization / hospital admittance, you should be aware that in the Philippines, the amount charged by the hospital is based on socialized pricing. It means that the bigger / more expensive your room is, the higher the charges not just for the room, but also for services and supplies provided by the hospital.

We prefer a small private room. But in case of an emergency, and the only rooms available are big private rooms and suites, we sign up for the waiting list for a small private room or even a semi-private room. There was one time midway through my pregnancy that I had an emergency, but the only room available was a suite. I'm glad that I was discharged the day after. PhP25k  in hospital bills excluding the MRI. Our bill would have been a lot less if a small private room were available.

Thanks for pointing this out, I didn't realize the size of room also effects the charges of actual services and supplies, that's kinda dumb ...  :o  like saying water cost more in a penthouse suite vs a regular room.
But it's good info to know, I'll make sure I'll remind my wife of that in another couple months when our baby is due.

Any idea if all hospitals and clinics do this? as like it's common practice ?

You mentioned the emergency was midway through your pregnancy and you ended up in a suite and billed 25K . I'm just curious, what did they actually charge you for? Please PM me if it's too personal for this info here or if you don't want to share, I understand. I am glad you are OK.

A lot has changed now especially with COVID, not my first rodeo, 2nd one to be exact, "data mining" and preparing for anything that may come my way once she is due.

I think you may have just saved me a bunch on the bill, Thanks Again.  :top:

Cars - and not provable for men - they dont have any virginity to lose  :)  as women have

(omo) All I know is I invested in buying everything here most of which I actually can't claim ownership/rights to :
a) The land on which I built a  house/warehouse/kubo which was all then perimeter fenced. (Millions of Pesos)
b) Fully fitted/fixtured up the house with sufficient stuff enabling all of us to live comfortably in.
c)  Taking care of two elder step kids that were not even properly fed/educated as the local father (later found to be married to another woman/"God save his face") conviniently disappeared leaving the mother (my current partner) whilst she was pregnant with his 2nd kid (son) whom he has never seen.
d)  So YES I look at my whole life here as a saviours "long term lease" (>8yrs) the longer all this lasts the better it will be for all of us...we are all still very happy/contented with what we already have. (Including the sex  :D )

bigpearl

Off topic but I'll get back to it. Apologies.

coach53.

Even the new car you buy has been driven by one or more people before it gets to the showroom to be viewed as new, by the purchaser. You like the car or don't, the spark.

The sex came when you purchased the car and the maintenance costs?

Every time I jumped into my SL Merc I felt the spark and yes I test drove before the purchase, the maintenance costs were prohibitive and like a failed relationship cost lots of dollars.

Old school and marriage? Not these days, the younger generation is wising up to the preached doctrines by an/many oligarchies trying to hold power. The grip is slipping as it should. Idealistic views were lost long ago when it comes to virginity.
Is it any different to car manufacturers, political parties, churches or extremists selling their wares? 21st century, out with the old etc. Prim and proper is old school.

Back to the OP's topic.
Private medical insurance in Oz used to cost us about AU 6K a year plus about 3K per year for Medicare which is tax based on your earnings,,,,,,,, go figure, there are expats that live here for much less than we paid in healthcare in Oz annually. My take is that we pay PHP 3,600 per year for Bens Philhealth, my bad as I've not taken this up yet and only PHP 17K. Slowly the wheels turn here. It's only good for admissions.

At the end of the day: A visit to my local doctor in a private hospital here costs 300 pesos, a specialist 400 pesos, I recently had surgery on my foot for an infection, long story but under the knife with local anaesthetic in a theatre with 5 attending,,,,,,, 7K, 2K  for antibiotics, ointments etc with advice to bathe my open wound in a Guava leaf tea to reduce infection,,,,,, it worked. Go figure.

At the end of the day most expats hold some form of medical insurance in their home country or wisely have a safety net. For me as a taxpayer in Oz have emergency cover, backstop. Part of our tax system there. Yes flights and accommodations but add up the numbers.
For me going down the private medical insurance tunnel here is worse than Australia but hey, OMO.

Cheers, Steve.
