Is our MEU1 still valid?

berniwilliams5

Hi, my husband and I have yellow slips MEU1. We own a house in Cyprus and lived there permanently for 10 years until 2015. We are currently living in Egypt due to my husband's job. We have been unable to travel back to Cyprus due to Covid restrictions, but will be visiting next month. My question, therefore, is, will we be able to return to live in Cyprus next year when we leave Egypt and will we be able to convert our MEU1 slips?

Also can I have as you got a house you should be ok ok I will contact the Cyprus embassy to find out if you were still be ok ok you should have changed your yellow slip after 5years too a MEU3 yellow slip will allow you out of the country for 5 years as long as you return within this time you can stay for 30 days or up to 90 days and you can leave the country going for another 5 years a yellow slip MEU1 is only for 6-months maybe a year this time you might get stopped save the hassle I will contact the embassy in Cyprus or the embassy of Cyprus in Egypt and find out if you're going to have any issues if you request any support I am happy to give and help you the best as I can.

Thanks

Wayne

Hello, I also have a MEU1 and I have been in and out of Cyprus a couple of times this year.  When I returned back to Cyprus on 08-09-2021 I asked the immigration officer at the aiport how long I am allowed to be out of Cyprus before I lose my MEU1 and he replied 6 months.  To the best of my knowledge, only when you have an MEU3 can you leave Cyprus for up to 24 months.  I hope this helps and I hope you won't have too many difficulties coming back to live in Cyprus.

With meu3 you can have an absence of upto 5 years

Hi Toon, thanks for correcting me.  That's good to know...!

Hi Toon, do you know whether it is 6 continuous months absence, or 6 months in total, for MEU1? And from when - presumably from January to December?  It is strange how my immigration lawyer told me that with MEU1 I could be absent from Cyprus for upto 12 months  I'm glad I didn't listen to her advice.
