Hello I am wondering if anyone has gotten married in the last few months in Morocco ?

There have been different couples who have told us different things about say Criminal record check / or lack there of needs to be authenticated and some told us that a RCMp criminal record check with their stamp on it is also accepted . Can someone please tell me what their experience was in Morocco with the Moroccan authorities . Did they accept it to get married ???

Please help

Thank you but all countries differ . I am looking for a Canadian who married a Moroccan man .

My fiancé and I taught we had what we needed . Both he getting his documents and myself getting mine .

But now we see that some people may have gotten their criminal record/ or lack there off  certified .  And some just got regular check through RCMP.

Now we do t know . I live in a small town in Canada and resources are not here to get things done . I’ve went to the local RCMP and got my record check done and fingerprints taken but not sure if that will be good enough and I’m suppose to be travelling to Morocco the end of this month 😩

HI, Usually, these documents are acceptable as long as you get it translated to Arabic within Morocco. Police tend to no what are genuine and can contact the appropriate issuing station if required to authenticate it. If you able to get it certified would be better just in case you get a difficult officer when submitting your file in the courts. However if it has the police stamp or on official police paper or gov paper then i don't see it being any issue.

With the UK Basic DBS you do not have to certify it as the paper it comes on is special paper issued only by the gov/police. Just had to translate the document to Arabic.

Hello
Just came back from Morocco and got married on September 27th...Police record from Canada has to be either original from RCMP or your local police station. Now, if police record is from RCMP from Ottawa, it doesn't need to be notarized but if its from your local police station it does NEED to be notarized. Once you obtain your police record you have to send it to Ottawa to be authenticated...you can do it on your own through mail and you will get it in 2 weeks. Depending on a city you are getting married in Morocco, some cities are accepting authenticated police record from your province but to be safe, do it in Ottawa..
If you have been divorced before... your divorce certificate needs to be authenticated as well so its best to submit both police record and divorce certificate at the same time. Your divorce certificate should be notarized or certified copy, before you sent it to Ottawa, cause obviously you don't want to give them your original

Does the police record check need to be done within a certain time? I got mine done in August bc we were planning to marry in November. However my flight got canceled a few times bc of covid and I am a nurse so it's hard to get approved time off.

We don't have a definite time right now booked but hoping sometime ins spring or early summer. But I sent my divorce certificate and criminal record check from August to get authenticated in December. WILL THESE NOT BE GOOD?

I also sent my original divorce certificate bc I was not thinking. I was confused and asked many people and no one was getting back to me. Will they not authenticated an original?

This process is so stressful :(

Amanda224

Do you know if there is an expiration date for the police report?

It takes another 5 weeks for me to get the report and then another 5 weeks to get it authenticated so that doesn't leave me much time if they want one within last 3 months??

I had a criminal record check done in August and was planning to marry in November. However due to covid and that I work as a nurse, two flights were canceled.

I sent out my criminal record check to be authenticated in December so that I would have it for the summer hopefully but will this criminal record check be too old??

Amanda224

Also I stupidly sent original of my divorce certificate to be authenticated. Will this be expired after a certain time as well?? Do I need to get a new one?

lindamayhill79

All documents r only good for three months only. So if ur planning to marry in august everything needs to be filed a month before u leave. I was married to a Moroccan man and I had to have everything done a month before cause it’s only good for three months

Amanda224

Would my divorce certificate need to be authenticated 3 months before as well?

I mean my divorce certificate is from 5 years ago. So would I then need a new one?

Amanda224

The process to get something duly authenticated takes like 5 weeks in the mail and it took me 4 weeks to get my criminal record check in the mail so that doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room....

lindamayhill79

I have my divorce papers from 2013 and it’s been notarized by a Canadian lawyer so that will be fine

lindamayhill79

Unfortunately no that’s why I followed a month before I left. Soon I will be marrying my new fiancée in Morocco and the process is stressful

Amanda224

Thank you so much!

@Amanda:

Wow, I didn’t know Criminal Record checks now have a huge backlog. Nonetheless, it doesn’t matter as long as the time it takes for you to get the document authenticated is no more than 5 weeks, so you can plan your travels accordingly.

The expiration date is no more than 3 months from the authenticated date on the application. Also, you can make a copy and get the document notarized. But don’t give this photocopy to your translator, only the authenticated document.

In my case, I accidentally gave my authenticated and notarized (Single) Certificate to the Embassy in Rabat. I was only supposed to give a notarized version, not the authenticated version. But I made sure I had another notarized copy before leaving Canada, though this one wasn’t authenticated by Ottawa (and the original date on the certificate was newer). That said, my application in the court was fine because I made sure the translation was made with the authenticated and notarized certificate, not just notarized. Sure, the contents of the translation and certificate didn’t quite match aa there was no authenticated seal that is mentioned in the translation, but I honestly don’t think they check the English documents, but rely on the translation.

However, in your case, as you were divorced, you may need to submit the authenticated divorce certificate version to the Embassy. You can ask the personnel there. Don’t rush and take your time when you are there.

As for your Divorce certificate. Notarized copies are always the best to submit to Ottawa for authentication. If you sent original, then you should make sure you have another for the courts in Morocco. It doesn’t matter if the dates don’t match. What’s important is the translated document should be the authenticated document (and the original authenticated document is sent to the court, but as I said above, it doesn’t have to be) and the date is no more than 3 months from the authenticated date. Canadian Embassy check for the dates unless original and the Moroccan courts check the translation. If it is original, the translation will mention this.

Yes. If you are planning to get married in the summer, everything will be expired. Plan everything backwards and you will be fine.

Find a reliable translator that you know can churn out translations in a week (you will require this translator later). Get a quote so you don’t waste money or overpay. Most will ask for example documents, but you should be able to get a range and flexibility to negotiate depending on the length. For example, translating a passport can generally be just 150 DH while a card ID can be 100 DH. Other translators will ask for 150-300 DH per page no matter what.

Plan when you want to submit the documents to the court. You won’t be able to plan the marriage/adoul until you get the approval from the court. And then based on this, you can plan when you should have your Embassy appointment and also when you should arrive. I advice Embassy appointment on the same week as your arrival.

If you know the above, you can estimate a 3 month time from the court submission to your expected time for police and divorce authentication, thereby determining when you should apply. Always do worst case as the postal services here are causing the most delay, not the processing by Ottawa.

Amanda224

Thank you!  You provided me with some clarity but also now I have more questions! Lol

So you suggest I have two copies of my divorce certificate (one original and one notarized copy that is duly authenticated within three months) and two certified copies of my divorce certificate (one of which is duly authenticated within 3 months)

Can the divorce certificate that I got duly authenticated in January be good for August?? Lol I feel my divorce was years ago so what does it matter but I will do whatever they want.

Then if I am following, once I am in Morocco I will need my original divorce and criminal record (along with photos passport etc.) to apply for the capacity to marriage and confirmation of nationality at the embassy. Which I need an appointment at the embassy for? But are appointments only available for Friday?

Then I need to also have a translated copies of my passport, birth certificate, job letter, health record, moroccan police record check, authenticated criminal record from canada and authenticated notarized copy of divorce certificate which I have for the justice courts in morocco???

And I take that with my capacity to marriage and confirmation of nationality (do these need to be translated too lol) and then the courts will issue us a permission to get married?

Then I take permission to Abdul and he will marry us and make a moroccan wedding certificate? Then I need to have that translated to English so that I can use it to apply for the permanent residence visa?

Am I close to understanding this whole process?

I am confused and apologize for all the questions. I get anxiety if I don't understand the step by steps I need to do in advance.

THANKS!!!!

All forms are only good for 3 months . Any older then that they will not accept .

Hi yes most documents must not exceed 3 months that includes the police record, unless you can convince the family courts to accept an older version as some cities can be lenient depending on the situation.

@labradorgirl37 hi, did you get married successfully in Morocco?? I am planning on getting married in September and just found out the police check needs to be authenticated by Ottawa which is so frustrating because processing time shows 65 days. Did you get yours authenticated or they accepted without?
