Hi - I'm Paul -
Just arrived in Medellin and loving it. Considering a move here, but also exploring Costa Rica, Panama, and Portugal.
I've been traveling internationally all my life, and I'm currently on a 90 day work travel tour.
I own a few companies in the marketing space, which affords me the opportunity to work from anywhere.
Looking for the best co working spaces in El Poblado or close by, that offers day passes when Im in town. any ideas?
Hi all,
My name is Paul and my wife (who is Colombian from Barranquilla) are seriously considering moving there when I retire in a couple of years or so. We own a condo in Almeda del Rio now which is fine but it is too small for us to live in. We are planning another visit later this year and I'd really enjoy meeting other expats to learn more about their experiences and maybe some tips to consider prior to moving. It feels a bit overwhelming to me right now...lots of questions!
Thanks, and I'm glad to have found this site!

Hi There,
First off, thanks so much for running this forum. I have had some lonely days as all expats can probably have where they miss home, and might feel a bit alone in a new country, so it can be very helpful to have a community like this to reach out to, share ideas, help each other, and perhaps even meet up. Luckily, the exploration and change far outweighs the lonely moments, so I know I made the right decision
My expat story, I have spent the last 6 months in Cucuta, Colombia for work, where I have had a really great time, lots of green and nature around, super hot, but its ok! I dont go out much during the day, and if i do it will probably involve a pool, or somewhere that is quickily replaced by indoor dining with AC
I lived in Lima, Peru for 5 years for work, and still go back sometimes, and although the weather was generally less hot, that created a lack of AC, so I found myself in way more situations where I was in a taxi, or at a restaurant with no AC, sweating my butt off.
Ok, this is probably getting off track from introducing myself.
If there are any expats in Cucuta who want to reach out, I would love to hear from you. Also will go to Bucaramanga soon.
Cheers!
I am returning member of the group and thought I would say hello again. I landed in Salento a week before the lockdown and stayed for 13 months before returning to the US last May. I came back to Salento a month ago, to my lovely cabaña and garden and my lovely Colombian family. They have adopted me; I am la tía.
Welcome back. I'm still in the US after getting stuck here due to the virus and then some other stuff kept me here. I hope to return to Colombia in June.
Hello, I am an American woman who spent last winter in panama and would like to see the difference in Columbia.
I would like to rent a reasonable priced apartment hopefully with wi-fi and a washer and dryer.
I often do housesitting and pet sitting and have many recommendations to share if someone needs that service.
I enjoy hiking, horseback riding, and exploring new cultures.

@Julien Hello! I arrived in this magnificent city of Bogota a fortnight ago from India. After staying in a hotel for some days, moved into a leased accommodation a day before. Have already been to Plaza de Bolivar and jardin de botanical and of course el parque de virrey which is my neighbor..and I want to explore more. I work in an Indian company which has an asset here. I am also a certified forest therapy guide and conduct forest walks and meditations. Hope to do one soon here. Are there interest/ hobby groups that one can join? If there are any expats living around, lets catch up. Thanks.

@Julien i have been living in costa rica and would like a change. we are a family of two with 6 cats. thinking of a mountain town around the ocean would be perfect but open to other options. love the water.
@cccmedia Thank you for the welcome, I appreciate the reply. I am enjoying the forum so far and I have already learned a lot.

Hello: I’m Tolbert, and my wife Clara is originally from Pasto, Colombia. We live in Arlington, TX and looking to possibly retire in Medellin in a year.
After we saw the Carlos Vives concert last night in Dallas, and my wife is ready to move back asap! LOL
I’m a video editor by day, but my heart is in music. I’ve been a bass player since the mid-seventies and still play. I actually play more now around the DFW area than when I was in my late 20’s.
We want a healthier lifestyle and want to be able to walk or bike to the market, parks and adventure. We are sick of the traffic and weather in Texas.
I’m interested in meeting other musicians. I currently play for Mad World: A Tears For Fears Tribute band in Dallas, sub for dance party bands and play at church too. I love jazz, funk, R&B and pop/rock music and can read charts. @madworldband
Hello all,
I'm new to this forum but am not necessarily new to living abroad in Latin America - my first experience was living in Costa Rica for a year back in the mid-80's (I LOVE CR and it's still my favorite place to visit) and that got me hooked on life in the tropics. I joined the Peace Corps and served in Honduras for 4 years, married a Capitalina and later came back for another 3 years trying to start a business (failed but had a wonderful time doing so ;?). During that time I've traveled to every country in Central America except Nicaragua and I've wanted to come to South America for a very loooooong time, and now that I'm retired (and divorced) I've finally decided to spend the next year or so traveling around to as many countries as I have on my bucket list, starting in Argentina where I am now.
BUT it's not turning out to be everything I hoped it would and that's largely due to the whole blue dollar exchange rate and all the hassle it's becoming to have to travel to Uruguay to get dollars, not to mention being unable to use credit cards for anything unless you enjoy paying almost double what you should have to, smh. I am trying to do this on a budget so I've pretty much decided to change plans and look for another country where I can set up my "base of operations" and then venture forth from there. So Columbia was next on my radar and from what I've been reading I'm seriously looking at either Pereira or Medellin. So I'll be asking lots of questions and thanks in advance for any good advice or travel tips ;?)
@tolbertpitman Just came from spending a month in Round Rock, TX and you have my condolences, lol, I just can't understand how anyone could put up with a month of triple digit temps (honestly there were only 2 days out of 31 that dipped below 100F), and yeah that DFW traffic is brutal ;?D
