CONSTRUCTION BUDGET/ESTIMATION

Post new topic

I find you can get 5 different quotes from 5 different men to do the same job , and most times ( not all ) you will be unsatisfied until you do it over again …. luckily the cost is about 25%

of what it would cost back in the states ( maybe even less ) so someone should keep their hopes high but keep a reality check on what else could be the outcome …. when i renovated my house in the states i remember it cost about 30 - 40 % over budget with unforeseen problems  and add ons ….  people should keep that in mind ..

What you must always remember is  any material imported is expensive,  labor  and local materials are less expensive as a general rule.

@Tippj

Thanks, I have been asking those doing the quotes about making sure they have contingencies built into the budget and nobody has put those in as yet, so I have to hold back some money in my budget to account for that myself. So far, the quotes I am seeing are comparable to what I would see in the states. One guy, an engineer, quoted me $30,000 USD just to manage the 2-3 month process.

That is nuts!

and I had another one quote me $29,000 USD to manage the process, but they were Russian, not Dominican.

I would ask them if they were  bonded and who will pay for the cost over runs and fix the shoddy work if need be … will they be able to cover the cost being there in charge of the project …🤔

… if i we’re you i would get very far away from those people and the ones that introduced you to them  … i don’t  see to many people here making $10 K USD a month i think ( maybe ,  just Maybe ) pay a guy $1000 USD a month to basically watch the all the Forman’s watch their men work ….

Thank you,  good ideas and I don’t plan to use those who charge those exorbitant fees. another wanted 70% down payment. i have already been burned once by paying before work was completed or not completed properly before I could inspect the work. The tough part is not living there and you have to trust and depend on others.

@Expatlife4us

   your quotes shouldn’t be comparable to the states , if something  cost you $100k to build in the states you should be roughly in the ball park of 40 - 50 % cheaper easily on the building materials , I’m sure you’ll have hi end finishes which will drive up your cost , but it will still b cheaper then in the states …  good luck and don’t rush untill you secured favorable contracts

@shericarolle11

Bag of cement is now around 500, block (depending on size) each around 50. But you can google that.

I agree with this. I just finished a wall project. The ferreteria I frequent gives a cash discount as well. Common practice.
