I travel to DR about one week per month for business and have been using a portable wifi device from Claro.  The cost of full Internet for a week is extremely low and generally reliable for basic tasks such as mapping, making calls over wifi, etc.   Probably not good fro streaming.   Does it make sense instead to get a regular sim card and a phone dedicated to DR? Is the monthly cost for high capacity access manageable?  I have been checking Google Fi and there seems to be something interesting there.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forums.

Is this for a place you rent long term or does it need to be portable?

Depending where you are, in home fiber optic internet is available for about US 50 a month with more than enough to stream.

Thank you.  No this is not for a fixed location.  My places have fiber optics for home internet. I suppose it is about weighing between buying the occasional mobile wifi and/or getting a permanent mobile phone service. What is the average cost for good data service? (Mobile)?  I ask because a 10-day mobile wifi access is less than US$10. If full mobile phone access is 20/25$ per month, perhaps its worth getting the permanent service?

I pay 1500 DOP/$26 US per month for a 3 G phone plan with Claro. I opted for a monthly plan because it's easier for me to remember to pay a bill on the same day each month than to monitor my data usage and have to top off my data.

If you know how many GB you use per month can make a comparation with the price you are  paying with prepaid mobile service with the motnly payment contract.  here is the link with Claro as you are using the service with them. https://www.claro.com.do/personas/servi … net-movil/

PD. The prices include a data bonus.
