How can that be if the name of the topic is Off Topic Posts?

Perhaps a post could have been removed for being an advertisement, but not for being off topic.

LOL! Okay, "off topic" as to what might be of interest to an expat. The removed multiple copy/paste posts were submitted by a now banned member who joined that same day.

But yeah, hard to be, by definition, off topic in an "Off Topic" thread :)

I think dear Priscilla is using a euphemism to avoid being specific about the inappropriate/offensive nature of troll's "contribution".

LOL! Lining up for a cheap-as-poop watch, even when it was at full price!

"If You Act Now! You can get 2 watches for 799kVND!" (2 for ~$34.00 USD)

In any event, nice to see not a mask in sight. Kids might not be as dumb as they act. :)

No, I know. Just nice to see no peer pressure amongst them to mask-up

please enlighten me.......what's special about this watch

Nothing. It's the "Timex" of today except it can't "take a lickin', and keep on tickin' "

& should I go join the queue tonight?

Only if you're a fan of, and want to emulate, some netflix Korean star who wears one in some series, available in some time slot, somewhere. I think. :)

That'll buff right out.

Nice.  It's like having your own YouTube except you control the algorithm.  I hate how on YouTube, if you watch one video, you get swamped with related clips when you only wanted to watch one.  Here you get to pick.

Save this link in case it is moderated away.

@Aidan in HCMC Whoa, this is excellent! Thanks for sharing!

Ôi trời ơi.......in all my 15 years in Vietnam I have never seen wind & rain like we had here in Tan Phu Celadon City last night. The park & gardens have many problems this morning.

I'm having some real trust issues when it comes to the medical establishment/FDA et al. The lot of them.

And, I'm not even talking about that thing which might be doing things we shouldn't be talking about.

From two respected sources.

SciTechDaily (link)

quoting Radiological Society of North America December 28, 2022

Corticosteroid injections are a very common treatment for knee osteoarthritis, however...

and from

The Bangkok Post (link)

quoting a US Congressional report criticizing a $56,000 per year(!) treatment drug for Alzheimer's. At that price, one would hope the treatment might actually work. FDA approved the drug, despite the independent investigative panel they hired finding "insufficient evidence of its benefit".(!!)

Should I require any treatment for anything in the future, I'm becoming more and more inclined to put my trust in the healing power of eye-of-newt and toe of frog, but that's just me. I'm silly like that.

In China you'll see the older folk walking backwards in the parks. Very low knee problems with age.

Knees over toes guy is capitalizing on it....

Others are going with BPC157/TB500 peptide injections....

Or buy in to to the approved to make extortionate profits industry?

the real scoundrels sell over-the-counter and prescription meds.  For example, why do we need 5 or more expensive, prescription statins when they may (or may not) save about 1 person out of a hundred from a cardiac event.  Why was the first one so good, but then trials for the subsequent ones were against a placebo, rather than the original?  Why do the drug companies legally know exactly what statin your physician is prescribing in the US.

Low-res(in) tape :)

Attended a Q & A with David Duchovny from "X Files" decades ago. Wss pretty interesting.

Did some grocery shopping today at a supermarket which stocks a fair bit of "Western" foods.

I saw an item which I hadn't had in a very long time. Hereford Brand Corned Beef, in the can with the key and strip tab for opening. I'm going to make meat pies for tomorrow. Corned beef mixed  with mashed potato and onion, then coated in flour and pan fried until slightly crispy on the outside. Yummy!

What isn't yummy is the price. I didn't notice it until I looked at the receipt when I got home.

228K VND for a 340g can! Bloody hell!

Sounds delicious & will give that one a try. For someone living in HCMC who craves for corned beef (like me periodically) & wants to try it or corned beef hash, the 2 shops beside Bitexco Tower that specialise in Western stuff have tins of corned beef (with the key but not Hereford Brand) at +- 90,000vnd & HP sauce (an essential with corned beef in my opinion) at about 90,000vnd a bottle.

@goodolboy

I messed it up a bit, but still scrumpdillyicious. In my haste I mixed the corned beef with the potatoes before letting the potatoes cool (preferably, chill). Consequently, because the heat from the boiled spuds essentially liquefied the corned beef,  I ended up with something with the consistency of mud peppered with onion bits. Still, after refrigerating it formed cakes quite well and it fried up okay. Next time I'll remember, and I'll keep an eye out for the cheaper alternative brand you mentioned.

@Guest2023 yes, I also have that question in mind for years

@goodolboy More “correct” pronunciation would be “Ối giời ơi” with a Northerner accent🙂

if you are going to be intelligent enough to correct people's grammar, please be brilliant enough to use the quote function since this is a very long thread and no one has a clue as to which post you are replying.

Your comment about the quote function is even more apropos in the case I have quoted below.  I can't find the antecedent anywhere. I guess it was "years" ago.

Not sure why the topmost quote above was fractionalized.   The quote function is not as easy as it was a year or so ago.

I think the member may have started started reading this thread starting at post #1. It might be a response to post #3(or #4, or #9 :)  )but without using the quote function it's impossible to know with certainty.

In spite of there being 54 recognized ethnicities, the cohesiveness of the Vietnamese culture is to me quite astounding.

It seems they realize that diversity™ is not their strength. Unity is.

I commend them for their efforts (and yes, my commendation includes current restrictions on foreign influence, vis-a-vis mandatory entry, employment, investment and residency requirements).

Kudos to you for being willing to go against the noise from myriad foreigners vociferously refusing to consider the unique, sovereign needs of this country.

Is this a quote from another source or you own writing? Not criticizing, just curious.
