What permits do foreign workers need to work in the Netherlands?

Post new topic

Foreign workers who are non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizens will typically need a work permit, also known as a work authorization, to work in the Netherlands. The type of permit required will depend on the individual's nationality, job, and qualifications. Some workers may also need to apply for a residence permit in addition to a work permit. It's important to note that EU/EEA/Swiss citizens do not need a work permit to work in the Netherlands. However, they may need to register with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) if they plan to stay in the Netherlands for more than 90 days.

Foreign workers who wish to work in the Netherlands may need to obtain certain permits depending on their situation. Here are some of the permits that may be required:

Residence permit: Non-EU/EEA nationals will need a residence permit to work in the Netherlands. This permit is issued by the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) and is based on the purpose of stay.

Work permit: In most cases, non-EU/EEA nationals will also need a work permit to work in the Netherlands. This permit is issued by the Employee Insurance Agency (UWV) and is based on the type of work and the duration of the stay.

Highly skilled migrant permit: Highly skilled migrants, such as those with a certain level of education or experience, may be eligible for a highly skilled migrant permit. This permit simplifies the process of obtaining a residence and work permit.

Intra-corporate transfer permit: Employees of foreign companies who are transferred to a branch in the Netherlands may be eligible for an intra-corporate transfer permit.

European Blue Card: Highly skilled workers from outside the EU/EEA may be eligible for a European Blue Card, which allows them to work in the Netherlands and other EU member states.
