@FilAmericanMom "I don't buy produce and seafood from supermarkets, but instead buy them at a wet market or "palengke."  It's because, from my experience, supermarket-bought produce and fish easily go bad and are not as fresh as those you can buy at a  palengke.  They're also more expensive. The price of produce at a palengke is around 20-50% less than at a supermarket."

Not only that, patronizing these supermarkets (owned by Yellow oligarchs like Henry Sy and John Gokongwei) only enrich and make them more powerful, to monopolize the economy and oppress our struggling "palengke" vendors and farmers from making a decent living.

It's unfortunate that this thread and a few others have turned messy with all the nonsense posted. I will report the posts and request the mods to have them removed. Sorry to say that your response to the drivel will also have to be removed. But for now,  I would like to request members to refrain from feeding the troll.

I think this would make this and other threads more pleasant for everyone to read, and not end up getting closed for members who might be able to contribute meaningful and informative posts.

Hello everyone,

Like FilAmericanMom mentioned, this thread has turned messy with a lot of off-topic posts.

Please note that I had to remove several pointless messages.

I would advise you to intervene in this discussion only if you have something related to the topic to share with members of this forum.

Thank you,

Thank you Cheryl.

I've also reported posts on 2 other threads: "Philippine History" and "Foreigner pecking order."

@FilAmericanMom  Necessary measures have been taken for the two threads that you reported as well.

@Enzyte Bob

Sir,  just wanted to comment on my observation of your spedning..

22,000 spend at S&R ?? is that nearly on average  how much you spend monthly?
if so, Yikes!   I often shop at S&R as well monthly, but my bill is but a third of that....scary...

- @kristopherryanwatson
Actually I spend more, I would estimate approximately $1,000 between S&R and Lander's. The reasons why: We have six adults and one toddler to feed. I buy the products I like, seldom skipping a product because of price. We use a shopping list but we purchase unnecessary items as we walk down the aisle. Before we go shopping we ask everyone what they need but end up with much more.

I have my receipt in front of me:
Chicken Thigh P667.63
Ground Pork P340.15
Sliced Bacon P682
Maple Cured Ham P491.82
Atlantic Cod P514
Jumbo Shrimp P449
Chicken Nuggets P319
Johnsonville Brats P347.50
Crinkle Cut Fries P359
Hash Browns P284
Four Premium Fuji Apples P179
Kewpie Sesame Salad Dressing P515
Baileys Irish Creme P549
Kahlua P609
Smirnoff Mule P449 for 12 bottles
Cranberry Light Juice P798 for two
Yuban Coffee P799
Tang Orange Juice Mix P579
Red Velvet Muffins P309 for six
Skippy Peanut Butter P478
One Gallon Dish Washing Liquid P374
Wesson Canola Oil P848
Domex 1L/2s P358
Bayon Bug Spray P314
Pine-Sol .95 L  P909 for 2 bottles
Gold Seal Tuna P252 four cans
Members Selection Sweetener P949, Compared to Splenda P1649, when Members Selection is not in stock
S&R Puppy Food 9kg P809

We bought much more but these are represented price of our choices.

My wife orders her brand of rice Dinorado P1350 for 25kg delivered to our house. She also shops at the small market & wet market for fresh Chicken, Pork Products, Fish, Vegetables and Fruit.

@cherryann01,

I know you were asking for percentages from kristopherryanwatson. But here's an idea on checking out the prices at supermarkets: Open a Metromart account.

Metromart is an online delivery website. They deliver at my area for Robinson's Supermartket and S&R. (I think they also deliver for Ace Hardware.) If you want, I can PM you an address near those 2 stores to input as delivery address . (I believe Metromart needs other information and verification but I don't remember what.)  The price of items bought through Metromart and bought in person at the supermarket are the same.

I don't buy produce and seafood from supermarkets, but instead buy them at a wet market or "palengke."  It's because, from my experience, supermarket-bought produce and fish easily go bad and are not as fresh as those you can buy at a  palengke.  They're also more expensive. The price of produce at a palengke is around 20-50% less than at a supermarket.

Speaking of "inflation," it's so annoying when there is too much of it in the forum - ego inflation from you-know-who,- messing up the thread. Sorry I have to say this: TBH, I'm contemplating on either just not visiting the site anymore or terminating my account because it's a waste of time scrolling through line upon line of nonsense and grandiosity to try to find something that's worth reading.
- @FilAmericanMom

Because I am currently in the UK there is no point in me registering for an online account with Metromart but thank you very much for the advise. My girlfriend owns a small food store and does most of her shopping from her store, other similar stores or the local market. I think I would be inclined to do the same when/if I make the move to the Philippines. Obviously there will be food and drink items that I would like that may be hard to find, so I may have to order some goods, maybe using Metromart, from a supermarket.

I must say though that seeing Enzyte Bob's receipt for his monthly shop from S & R has surprised and to some extent shocked me. Not so much because of what he spends per month but because he has made me realise all the food and drink items I will miss that can be easily purchased in the UK for much less.
Some items that I like which I either failed to find in the shops over there or were much more expensive than in the UK include - yogurts (flavoured, ie strawberry, cranberry and raspberry), Grapefruit Juice, Grapefruit ( although my girlfriend did find a pink grapefruit, however it was pretty dry), Bacon, not the streaky stuff I found there and baked beans. Other things I would miss include, lamb, mint sauce, brown sauce, proper fish & chips, chips in general, oxo cubes, bisto, the list goes on and that scares me.

On the plus side, I love mango float, tuna belly and all the smoothies and juices in the Philippines.

Please do not stop visiting the site or terminate your account. You have made some invaluable contributions and I for one do not want to see you go because of one person. I admit that some of my replies may have given him some extra ammunition to come back with more and for that I am sorry and will do my best to try to stick to the topic in hand.

@Enzyte Bob

Thank you so much for sharing.  With the consideration of that number in your 'company' its no wonder that bill is so high. It certainly puts things into perspective.

As for myself, my food bills cover myself and my partner, and her 14-year old daughter.  very straight forward. food bills are no more than about 7-11 k for all groceries. and then perhaps another 3.500 - 4000 for dining out and entertainment at the most..

Hi there,

I haven't forgotten about your reply on this inquiry.

Sure thing. I'll take a moment to break this down and I'll  reply once again with those percentages...I've just been awfully busy with work related things over the past day. i''ll get back to you soon!

thanks.

kristopherryanwatson

@Cherryann01

Hi !

I said i would provide you a reply on your inquiry and i certainly did not want to let you down.
Kindly see below for my breakdown....

15% on weekly visits to the market (2 times a week)
15% on dining out/delivery (2-3 times at the most)
20% on 1 monthly visit to S&R  (As per someone's mention before, if you're not familiar, S&R is a lot like CostCo in the US)

the rest  of my income goes towards bills, entertainment, any unplanned expenses, savings.

do let me know if you have any other questions.

Cherryann01

@kristopherryanwatson Thank you very much for the info. I think I now have a better understanding regarding food and drink shopping.
