Looking for board games

Starry Expanse

I have a Mauritian friend who is coming to my house for dinner in the near future.

My friend speaks English but her mother and sister don't.
I'm looking for things that we can do together that don't require conversation.
Note:  Her sister is young, so it can't be anything very complicated.
For example, a jigsaw puzzle might work... except I don't have any.
If you're near Flic en Flac and you have a 300 piece (approximately) puzzle or two that you're willing to lend me for a little while, please let me know.

I have a deck of cards.  I can probably find French instructions for a couple of simple games online.

Here are the names of some games that I've found on reddit, etc.  I've only played a few of them.  I'm going to see if I can buy a couple of them locally.
If you have a copy of any of them that you're willing to loan (or sell), please let me know:

Hi Starry Expanse,

I have taken the liberty of renaming this thread, hoping that you get more visibility and answers 1f609.svg

From your list, I recommend Love Letter or Masquerade. Both are simple, fun, ‘light’ games that children and adults can play and enjoy, whether winning or losing.  Neither require much in the way of language skills.  Their rules are easy enough to learn.

@Starry Expanse  Board games - you may be onto something that can bring expats together.  It reminds me of a place that I went when I was in Old City, Bristol, UK.  Have you ever been to Chance and Counters (https://www.chanceandcounters.com/bristol/)?  Lots of fun.... Feel like starting a board game library in Mauritius?

Hello, @Starry Expanse,

I know there is a someone who is renting board games (in the North unfortunately), but maybe he can give you some advices.

You can find him on Facebook, it's called Ludo Box Maurice, they have more than 200 games available.

Have a nice day

@prospectorland

Chance and Counters looks gorgeous.

There is a similar place in the Seattle area called Mox Boarding House: https://www.moxboardinghouse.com/

Regarding creating an expat game library:

I could provide a place to keep games for people to borrow and I can maintain an online inventory that shows who borrowed a game and if it has been returned.

I don't have a car and I don't want to spend my time being fretting over it all. So, someone else would have to do any required running around and nagging people to return what they have borrowed.

@Camille_S

https://www.facebook.com/LudoBox has quite a collection.

Thank you for telling me about it!

@Camille_S , I could not find the address for Ludobox in Grand Baie.  I will be mostly in the North during my stay in June.  I was planning to visit.  Is it mainly a subscription service?  Also how can you pick up the game if you rent one?

Guest140423

@Starry Expanse Moxboardinghouse sounds like a fun place to visit.  I will make it a point to visit when I drop by Seattle.  Thank you.

My sister lives in the Windermere neighborhood.

Come make a party of it. We can drink wine and eat lots of things that are bad for us, and stay up as late as we want. Send me a private message if you're interested and we'll pick a date.

So cool. Currently travelling with my wife but when we get back, why not !

Are you renting in Flic en Flac or Floreal ?

@Davidray10

I moved to Floréal in June. It's nice. It's a little cooler and I can walk to the Metro station. That lets me go lots of places that were difficult to get to before.
