Hi all,

I'm in this situation seeking for advice from you all. Any comment would be very helpful. Thanks!

I am a fresh graduate from a local university, on student pass expiring in early September.
I applied for LTVP in early July. (from then till now is 1 month)
I got an offer and my company applied EP for me in mid July. (from then til now is around 2.5 weeks)
I just got LTVP result to be "approved-in-principal (pending document)" in early August. (document needed is medical report, to be submitted by early September)

My questions are:
1. Should I wait for the EP or go ahead with the LTVP?
As I'm still on a valid student pass and waiting for EP and my concern is that I can only apply for LTVP once in a lifetime. Not sure in the future whether I'm gonna need it.

2. If I am oversea, can I use this "approved-in-principal" LTVP to fly in Singapore to get medical report? ie. Can I treat it as an IPA?

I am going to do medical report anyway since I probably need to submit it for the EP as well. But I was wondering also:

3. Is the medical report of LTVP different from that of EP? How long does the medical report remain valid?

eg. If I do the medical report now (for the LTVP) and perhaps EP got approved next month, can I use it for EP's required medical report?

1. EP processing times could take 6-8 weeks at a minimum, sooner or further delays can’t be predicted. To help better ascertain the chances, could you outline the tiering of the company and your job profile please?

2. LTVP is issued once, correct but when you start working, why would you be bothered about LTVP anyways? You need an EP or equivalent work authorisation/ pass to work anyways

3. Medical tests are rarely required for an EP, been a while since I’ve heard an applicant on an EP was asked to do so (unless you are flying in to SG from a country with let’s say yellow fever, or you have some chronic condition that impacts your ability to work in SG and could be a hazard/ prevent you from not meeting expectations)

If I were you, will take the LTVP, while I wait for my EP, then switch to EP

(remember, EP is a gamble in your case, wait and watch literally. While LTVP is giving you the ability to stay longer and presents an opportunity to even work on Plan B (another job that can fetch you an EP).

P.S- Medical tests are done at authorised Centers (you have to provide the letter where you are requested to undergo tests), the designated and licensed medical practioner will directly upload the reports on MoM portal. Next time you are asked, for another test, you repeat the visit. You can’t keep using the same health stats for weeks or months to come

FYI, I studied Info System (programming) in uni and my job title would be software enginner related, the company offered me is a fin-tech start-up company (< 10 employee, so they applied EP for me without job advertisement on mycareersfuture).

MOM states that 85% EP application take around 3 weeks, so I'm hoping my case would be the same.

Another question I want to ask:

Can LTVP holders travel in and out of Singapore? Or they must stay in SG for that one whole year?

I guess the answer is yes because it's "long-term". But just want to confirm again. Thanks!

From my research, it's around ~$75-$100 depending on clinics and type of test. And as a fresh grad, I consider it's a bit costly that's why I wonder if I could save up a bit by do both LTVP and EP medical report in one visit.

Normally, the rule is only one application ongoing at any one time.

So I wonder how you managed to apply for LTVP and EP at the same time? (Is perhaps the LTVP with ICA - you did not mention what grounds you are applying it on - and the EP with MoM?)

Also, I have never heard that an LTVP is once-in-a-lifetime. You can of course apply for another LTVP in the future, if you fulfil the requirements!

Yes LTVP is with ICA, as I'm a Graduate from an Institute of Higher Learning seeking employment in Singapore. And EP is with MOM applied by my employer.

I might mishear about the once-in-a-lifetime thing about LTVP. Just that LTVP validity for 1 year and if it got approved then the EP got approved right after then it'll be a waste not utilising the LTVP (and it costs me the processing fee, medical checkup fee and other admin fee to finally collect it).

It does not sound right to cancel an LTVP application (which you might or might not need in the end), just because of the associated fees (which, in my experience, are usually reasonable in Singapore).

LTVP medical is around 55$ only(chest xray and HIV test).

Medical results are valid for 3 months so i think you can still use your medical result for your EP if they asked you to do the same medical(Chest Xray and HIV test), you only need to sign below the declaration(medical form) that havve done medical

2nd, usually if EP, employer will shoulder your medical expenses, so no need worry about it.
